There are boosted cars that go to track days and don't use that damn much oil. Saying it's designed that way sounds like an excuse to me.

Understand if it only happens during a track day.

However I’ve read on a ton of gt350s being babied like a damn ancient scroll that also burn tons of oil.

I think that’s the irritating part for owners.

Just as a data point for you guys basically saying "it's the revs, duh"

S2000's are routinely zinged to 9000 RPM on road courses and they don't burn oil like some Voodoo's are doing.

Again. Totally different design and the last S2000 produced was almost 10 years ago

My buddies GT350 burns that Quart every 750 Miles in normal driving.... he says most Voodoos burn around a quart every 1k even in normal driving according to other owners. Car and Driver reported their long term GT350 was burning oil at a very high rate too. I think it was 5 quarts in 5k miles....
My Boss turns 7500 rpm and doesn’t burn any... even when driven hard. So that rpm theory doesn’t hold up....

What boosted car revs as high as a GT350?

My point is that boosted engines tend to see some ring blow by and positive crankcase pressure. So a manufacturer can design an engine and PCV system that eliminates that so that oil doesn't push past the rings and burn up. Then why can't Ford make an NA engine that doesn't burn up oil? Yes the revs are high. Someone beat me to it already but look at the S2000. The rev argument is just a damn excuse. They made a mistake in the design. PERIOD. IMO.

I guess alot Porsche , BMW and Mercedes engine builders made the same mistake as Ford because some of them burn more oil then GT350 engines .

Porsche say (in the owners hand book) that engine oil consumption can be up to 1.5l/1000km.

Oil consumption is normal on all engines,” BMWspokesman Hector Arellano-Belloc said in an e-mailed statement. “BMW vehicles have long intervals between oil changes (10,000 miles). BMW engines (excluding the BMW M) may consume up to one quart of engine oil per 750 miles under certain driving conditions.

LT1Porsche and Sid nailed it on the head.

This is an issue across all brands. Everyone is going to thinner, low tension ringpacks to decrease friction and improve fuel economy. It does just that, but at the cost of increased oil consumption.

I was just going to say I remember a buddy I used to work with had an early 2000s M5 and the manual actually said it was expected to burn 1 quart per 1,000 miles.

I would imagine the S2000 example is not a good one for this argument due to the inline motor architecture. Inline motor forces are basically all in one plane, this is key. 90* motor forces are literally trying to rip the block apart on each stroke.

My car revs to 7000, is NA, has 54K on it and doesn't burn a drop. Then again I don't track it either so... YMMV.
