What does it take to switch to regular tail lights?

Just bought a 64k Mile 01 Cobra.. Mechanically, the car is in great shape but has an ugly ass body kit on it, so it has become my new beater.. This car doesn't deserve the mint ambers it has on it, so I plan to switch them out to regular tails for awhile.. What all do I need? I've added exports to my Sn95, so I'm familiar with switching the other direction..

When you change them out, are you planing to sell the OEs? I'm in the market for the right price.

Not at the moment.. They're mint. Car will be my beater for awhile, may possibly put a Saleen Kit on it and have it wrapped.. After putting a $10k paint job on my 97, I'm not doing that shit again. So down the line I may put them back on, but until then, I would like to keep them safe.

Not to be a smartass..but pics please! I like the saleen gill side scoops myself.

Easiest thing to do is get some used gt lights/harness and drill a 1" hole for the turn signal light.

Otherwise you are rewiring and putting in a different relay..cutting a wire under the dash....then undoing all that work when you go back to the ambers.

Salvage/junk yard time.

In order to add exports on my 97, I followed instructions for a. 99/01. I tapped power from the 3rd brake light and cut a wire in the kickpanel. Don't know how I would "undo" that on a car that already came wired for it. That's why I'm asking. Or I can drill regular taillights to work lol.

If the plan is to put the ambers back on at some point I'd just drill a set of standard lights. Easiest way to go IMO.

The GT tail lights don't have a socket hole for the cobra turn signal light.
You just drill a 1" hole for the socket and then you have a red turn signal light.

On the red GT tail lights:
1. file down the plastic nipple where the corner lights go
2. drill a small pilot hole at that center point.
3. drill a 1" hole with a hole saw.
4. file and test fit notches for the turn signal connectors until they can be dropped in and turned into the new light hole.
You will need to build up the area with another seal ring or with silicone for a tight fit around the connector.

someone updated the thread to give instructions to wire cobra to gt tail lights:
https://www.svtperformance.com/forums/threads/wiring-gt-tails.1007977/

It's up to you of course.

Drill the gt tails if you plan on putting the ambers back in so it saves you time down the road

Don’t want to steal the thread but if you want message me I have amber tails and harness for sale. See if we can make a deal!

This car was built when it was brand new. Actually went through Barrett Jackson in 2003 lol. It's vintage garbage

Xenon kit?

Is that True Blue? My wife wants my TB repainted Midnight Blue Metallic (05 Ford GT).
