Hi all,

I've kind of decided my car is too stiff for the street; it's just not compliant over normal bumps and the car is simply jarred around too much by otherwise pretty good streets. Now, the car is lowered, I think probably 1.5 inches all around and the previous owner put the lowering springs on so I do not know anything about them (manufacturer, spring rate, etc).

I spotted the BMR Street kit that is advertised to give a modest .5-1 inch drop and that seemed reasonable (for looks) and seems like it will potentially help ride stiffness. I am wondering if any of you have direct experience with these springs on your 500s? Looking forward to some responses!

Thanks.

Oh Canada!
I looked into these at one time, but couldn't find a lot of reviews from owners who actually installed them. I believe @Streetpwr281 runs those springs. Hopefully he will step in to give feedback on them.

I have no direct experience with them, but just based on the spring rates they publicize, they would be close to the SVT performance package springs in terms of ride quality. I've heard favorable comments about H&R Sport springs as well as Steeda's Sport springs. One thing you want to watch is how close your rear bump stop is in relation to the frame at ride height. If clearance is tight, you're hitting the bump stop to limit downward travel which is never a comfortable ride.

I run the BMR SP070 - Lowering Springs, Set Of 4, Performance, GT500 | 2007 - 2014 Shelby GT500 | Lowering Springs | BMR Suspension - High Performance Suspension & Chassis. Ride is only mildly firm, handling is improved, and stance is right. I can make it pretty compliant in “Comfort” mode or more aggressive on “Sport” on the suspensión settings. I like the springs overall for my 13’.

I had to cut about 1/3 of my rear bump stops, using Steeda springs. It is fairy rough anytime you hit some dips or bumps in the road. I keep advising my "well endowed" girlfriend to wear a sports bra when we go for a cruise... I puchased some Tokico D-Spec shocks/struts from a member here hoping I can soften the ride a little. Won't know for a while though as I am buying a house and shocks and struts are pretty low on the priority list now.. How many miles do you have on your car, maybe shocks and struts might help?

Thanks for the reply. I am looking for some drop and a stock-ish spring rate, so maybe the BMRs will work. I really don't want much more than 1 inch of drop, so I'm wondering if the Steeda and H&R ones will give too much drop? I guess I'll have to look into that. So in regards to the bump stops, I did cut them a bit because they were close, but not hitting. It didn't seem to help out enough. Thanks!

Ok, great! Your stance seems a little higher than mine, especially in the front, which is what I am looking for. My front end, which is basically brand new, sits way lower than yours. I also don't have the benefit of adjustable suspension modes in my 2010, so I guess, in the most aggressive mode on your 13, does it still seem compliant over average crappy road?

It’s so subjective but I ride around in the sport mode or middle firmness option and they ride nice. I’ve had many Mustangs and these springs are a happy medium between handling, ride height, and ride quality.

A couple things you may need to consider concerning actual drop. The ride height of the earlier cars are a little higher than the later cars. This is a little deceptive in that the later cars also used taller wheels and tires on the performance packages. The 07-10 models had an iron block which is good for another 100 lbs. over the front wheels. It just makes comparison a bit more difficult. I've seen some vendor sites give stats on earlier vs. later and seen some people that install them complain when the don't get the drop they expected on later cars. My suggestion would be to go through some of the picture threads and when you see the stance you like, hit the owner up for what springs he has. Cars with bigger tires can also fill up wheel wells and make it look lower than it would be if they were sporting lower profiles.

Case in point. This is is crappy phone pic of my car with stock SVTPP front springs and dropped about 5/8" in the rear. Front tires are 285/40-19 and rears are 315/35-20. Tire diameters are 28" and 28.8" front and rear respectively. I dropped the rear using adjustable spring seats and 2.5" coil-over springs. I've since installed coil-overs up front and gone down to 27.7" tires front and back. It sits slightly lower than what you see here, some of which is the reduction in tire height.
