Has anyone in here have any knowledge on how to use a stand alone ecu such as AEM Ifinity or Holley in conjunction with the factory ecu so that i can retain accessory functions such as A/C, power steering, windows, etc?

Would also like to know this for a 04 cobra, turbo setup, wanting to keep street features and obd2 for inspections if possible?

I am actually working on this right now with my 2012 GT500 and AEM 708 with all the accessories. Although I do not need all the AC, radio, etc. I have been speaking to a company called Boomslang who makes a plug n play harness for the stock ECM to the AEM Infinity to retain the factory CAN Bus communication to still allow control for all those items. However, it uses the factory wiring harness and I am working with them to get the AEM Smart Coils added to the harness.

Im familiar with Boomslang, but at the time i contacted them they had no harness for the gt500. You have to send your factory harness to them for modification?

How long ago did you contact them? They’ve had a jumper for the factory ecu on their site for a while. Also have email from them regarding the expansion to include smart coils.

It was 2 months ago, but it could be because i was enquiring about a harness to be used with the Holley EFI stand alone

Yes. I sent you a PM.

They can now do smart coils as well if you want but it is an added fee to both main harness and new sub harness.

Guys have been piggybacking ECUs since the MegaSquirt, Haltech, AEM, etc. first came out.

Many times, you can use one to drive larger injectors that the stock computer doesn't support when using it in a piggyback. That and engine swaps in cars with CAN bus.

While it is very possible to piggyback a stock ECU to get a car to meet OBD2, it isn't as easy as it sounds. Heck, it's hard enough to get Tricore and Copperhead cars to pass emissions with just long tube headers or no cats with the new rules many states have in place only allowing one "not ready" test, let alone making sure both computers play well with each other.

But, it IS possible.....

Emissions isn’t a concern for me, it was just really retaining accessory functions i.e. A/C, steering rack, windows. I knew it was possible because I’ve seen street cars running Holley EFI, AEM, etc. But it’s hard to find info on how it was done. Boomslang has an solution for the AEM system, I’ve found no info on a parallel system using Holley EFI

Because Holley doesn't support piggyback setups. Anyone doing so has to usually run dual sensors for a lot of items and Holley will not provide any technical support. Each of those systems is basically a one off.

I bet you Boomslang will be happy to build you a custom harness that supports the necessary dual sensors, etc., but you'll most likely have to provide them the custom wiring diagram.

For an 04 cobra, all you need is a Haltech Elite 2500 with the patchloom harness. This will support what you're looking to do quite easily.

That would still allow for obd2 to be read for emissions, i havent done too much research on it but everything i have been reading said that the aftermarker ecus wouldnt be obd2 compatible. Im trying to get into a boat where i dont need to get a tuner involved to make changes to my setup.
