R guys....question about tire fitment

For guys running R wheels, if you ran a 325/30R19 would it rub?

I'm thinking about going with an 11.5" R style wheel (56MM offset) and wondering if a 325/30 will rub.

Before I go down this path, I'm wanting to quantify my pain for recurring tire costs. The Cup2 tires are great, but from what I've read, the lifespan ranges from terrible to "oh my God, I just bought tires yesterday"

The MPSS is easier to get in a 325.

Just watched a video the other day of review on an R, I'm almost positive the owner had gone up to 325's on the rear after his Sprort Cup2's were spent

I think you'll be fine. I have a set of OEM rear rims - 11" - with Trofeo R 325/30x19's on them. With a 7mm spacer (ET55) they don't hit anything inside or out. And the Trofeo R's are WIDE. These things are massive.

Word of advice. If it’s on the same wheels don’t put wider tires. It will take away from the performance. The tires were designed a certain width to match the wheel size. You would think having a wider tire would give you more rubber on the road. If you go to wider wheels yes that would be the case. But if you stay with the same wheels it won’t. Because it will change the profile of the tire causing less rubber on the road.

R-spec wheels poke, that's a fact. But the 325's I ran fit the rim square and the side wall was on point.

The tires weren’t designed for the sidewalls to be straight up and down. If you’re using stock wheels they will fit but wider isn’t better. You will lose both handling and grip. I know this because I work for the company that designed the tires.

Beautiful stance Tob. I prefer to square up the sidewalls on my shoes too. I would guess the performance delta would depend on the test, some cases the fatter the better, others the less roll the better...

That's about how much my stock Cup 2s stick out on the back for some reason.

I took a different approach: I run 305/30-19 MPSS all around on my R-spec SV501s.

Slightly more stretch in back vs. the stock 315 Cups
Slightly less stretch in front vs. the stock 305 Cups

This is because the MPSS (and the MP4S) have more of a square section profile and slightly wider tread width than the Cup tires for a given size. The MPSS 305s are rated for a 10-12" wheel, so my setup is within Michelin's spec all around, and the actual tread width is very close to the stock setup on CF wheels. It also maintains the stock overall tire height (and gearing) of the R, which is different from the base GT350.

(Note the MP4S in 305/30-19 is rated for a 10.5"-11.5" wheel width range, so it would also work.)

Couple points to add to this topic...all tires are NOT created equal across the same size. There are huge variations between manufacturers. Tob has Conti EC's in his pics. Relevant because the Conti's run narrow for a 325. They fit more like a 315 on that 11.5" wheel, which is ideal for looks. Michelin 325's on the other hand are fat a shit. So shop around and make sure you're getting what you want. I steered away from Michelin for this very point and went Conti, and have ZERO regrets. They're awesome. Here's some mark=up images I did. Both of these shots are 325/30's mounted on R wheels. I tried to grab the corner of the tread as an even playing field, since that's what's important to me. The white car is my Conti and the blue is a Michelin. Just like you can tell in Tob's pic, the tread will sent just under the fender. Michelins will not.

The picture of that 325 Continental looks just like how the 315 Cup 2 fits on my R.
