FlahDah man.
They won’t ask if it’s real, because most folks will assume it’s fake. I have held a real sub and a fake submariner, at least with that particular fake it was very obvious. Weight alone was significantly different. FWIW I witnessed a coworker get called out by a Commvault partner when I worked at Dell. He straight up clowned my coworkers ass.
While mine was real I just never got challenged or had the need to prove it was.

Yeah the company I was referring to has similar weight as well. I browsed them today.

I think this is it.

Someone please explain me the appeal of these all "fancy pants" watch brands? Do people really go around looking at your wrist and judge you for it? Is there really a need to only lose 5 nano-secs of accuracy after 80yrs? I couldn't tell a $100 jc penny watch from a $10k high end one if you held a gun to my head.

maybe this is the one thing ive been missing all these years.. Is there some secret gentlemens club where such things are discussed that i'm not privy too? I have questions..

Well given your profession I wouldn’t question you either :D

RE: The callout, the Commvault guy knew our team well and that we were all on Dellfare(what we called our base pay), so it was just some good old fashioned ball breaking.

Its a personal thing. You are 100% correct 99.999% of people wont even pay attention to the fact that you have a watch on. Its like explaining fast cars to people who like a prius. Doesnt have to make sense. All I know is people who buy fakes are fake people

You're not missing anything. Expensive watches are a gargantuan waste of money. The reasons normal people own them are often hilarious as you can see in this thread. Unless the watch has a lot of complications (ie intricate functions) it isn't really that special. There's a point where higher end, yet still reasonably priced, watches have better materials and hold up to abuse better but you don't have to break the bank to get there.

Do the fake wheels have the logo of the og manufacturer? Nothing wrong with a "homage" but when you blatantly copy the name/logo then that is absolutely theft. If someone does it themselves then IDGAF but when a company is making copies then again... Its theft, fact that you dont see that is scary, go move to china.

I have negotiated many, many high level deals, and a lot of not so high level. I have lost track of the times the guy setting across the table said, "nice watch." People are paying attention. They recognize your success. Its a way that you pay yourself for your hard work. Some people buy a nice car, but you don't drive into meetings, your suit, your shoes, and back in the day your tie made a statement that you cared enough to bring your best to the table. Its hard to take a man seriously if he has a hole in his pants.

great point. awesome advice for the 1980's. i do a lot of deals myself, usually im not even wearing pants. im on a webcam with a nice shirt, shorts and no shoes. time changes things is my point. nothing wrong with being presentable, but a neat, clean appearance means more than a watch that most people wont even notice. if this guy shows up to a meeting dressed like this, do you think people would take him serious?

i wouldn't compare the two. in terms of functionality, a $20 timex does the same thing that a $25,000 rolex does - it tells time. thats it. hell, you can ask someone what time it is and get the time for free. modding a car, it is so you can get the thrill of speed. so, a $5000 car wont give you the same thrill as a modded car. so with a car, more invested in it, more joy/speed/thrill. with a watch, they all do the same no matter the price.

Howard Hughes went around driving an old car and looking like a hobo. He was very wealthy and even more crazy. There are always exceptions.

In our business we still meet in person. Old school I know. You have to keep your hand in because things have a way of making a complete circle.
