It's not a Vive or anything, but it came closer than I expected it to. I've had mine for awhile now VR is literally the only thing in 35 years of gaming I would consider a real "game changer." Even going from Super NES to N64 pales in comparison to being INSIDE a game, literally.

The game below really blows my mind everytime I play it. It's not a little snippet of the game either, you can play the entire thing on PSVR. You really feel like you're in the car, very hard to describe how well it transports you. SO intense the video does little justice and playing it on a TV screen feels laughable by comparison without depth perception.

Tons of other games, but I play it more than my regular ps4 and Xbox by far. It's really a console within a console and the most fun I've had since ps1 days.

My buddy has an oculus I think it is setup with his pc and a wheel and is really into Iracing and a few other games, he has quite a bit tied up in the setup but it's incredible.

I went and tried it out and no joke the corkscrew at Laguna seca gave me that same stomach feeling as when you drop down a hill on a roller coaster. I started doing donuts just playing around and had to pull the headset off it made me feel really queasy. He had a shooting game where you moved the character using 2 hand held controls but could duck yourself down or lean forward and look through windows or get behind cover, that coupled with using the same motions you would in real life dropping a mag grabbing another one off your waist holster then sliding it back in the gun and chambering a round was just cool as hell even if the graphics were sub par.

Racing with the wheel and VR is tons of fun and just really impressed me. But I couldn't do it for long without feeling queasy. Ymmv of course

I would hope so considering the N64 was an awful successor and was a step back.

I have the VR setup as well, was really surprised how it does put you into the game. Get Killing Floor Excursion, dual wield those pistols, 360 turning, and gunplay, have to physically pump shotguns, or pull pins and toss grenades, its badass. Almost put one of the motion remotes through my tv Skyrim. But the VR headset needs to be modded to fit 2 beers.

I'm strictly speaking of the technology leap from 2D to 3D, not about game quality. VR technology literally puts in you inside a videogame and that's not an exaggeration in the slightest. That type of technological leap is the largest I've ever experience in over 3 decades of gaming.

I've been Skyrim recently and that blows my mind.

4k will be ultra-demanding. You would likely need over 12TF GPU considering it has to run at 60fps locked bare minimum. It's even more demanding than flat monitor games at 4k 60fps, way more actually, hence why you will need a monster rig. Rigs today struggle with native 1440p VR 60fps with high settings on the Vive pro, but can easily run those settings on a monitor.

That's also what I am talking about. The jump from the normal 2d to the 3d rendering on the 64 was bad. I don't think a company should do something just because others are doing it. If it can be done well is what the emphasis should be placed on.

I disagree. Mario and Zelda Ocarina of time, for example, blew my minds in 3D. Both were reviewed well and next to nothing was mentioned about them looking bad at the time. The artstyle of the games worked well, it didn't need ultra hidef textures back then. There are many other examples of course but those stick out and I think Mario holds up decently considering its over 20 years old.

But having said all that, VR is a bigger jump.

Bascially Rainbow Six in VR. Came out today.

This is probably the closest thing to airsoft or paintball I've played as a videogame, but holy shit its intense. You use a gun that's a controller called the AIM and you can literally blindfire by reaching around corners with your arms, lean around corners to fire. Its intense, iike Rainbow Six oldschool but way more real. Looks even better inside the headset than videos.

I cut down the video to the summary:
