So another update: last week went to the ER with sharp pains in my stomach that have been going on since this whole ordeal. Originally thought to be some mild gastritis, turned out to be my gallbladder.

I’ve had numerous contrast ct scans and ultrasounds showing nothing.

This past Monday morning I felt the pain coming back so I went back to the ER. Luckily, they ran the same tests to which one showed inflammation and they admitted me.

The doctor had the knowledge luckily to order a “HIDA scan”. The test is supposed to show the organ working but never did.

Tuesday morning they had surgery to pull it out and it turns out it had gangrene on it and been dead for a long time now.

Since removed, my heartburn is gone but I still have some incidences of reflux.

So one step closer to getting this all fixed.

If there’s one tip I have, it’s that if you feel pain, have multiple tests and opinions before you just take there’s nothing wrong for an answer.
Wow, that's crazy!
Good luck going forward man.

Thanks! Yea it’s been a wild few months but luckily things are slowly moving forward.
I definitely feel better having that toxic thing out of me.
Yeah, I'm sure that wasn't helping things.

Good deal! I had mine yanked 6 years ago. Had some attacks that felt like heart attacks and they found it loaded with stones and infected. Unfortunately it took about 1.5 years for my digestive system to settle out somewhat afterwards. My wife had hers taken out in 2007 and didn't miss a beat afterwards.

Oh man, that was the worst. I’d get random chest pain and then they even gave me nitro last time I went because they thought I was having a cardiac episode.

I think if someone shows up twice with the same pain in the same area, they should order a HIDA scab automatically. That’s better than, “oh, well there’s nothing there!”

Definitely. Luckily mine showed up on the first ultrasound.

So I completed the ph bravo study last week and they got the results back. Followed up with my GI doctor and he says it showed reflux for sure.

Turns out I also have under active thyroid and both the GERD and thyroid can be contributing to the minor motility issue as well.

Next step is surgery!

I drank ant poison when I was 4 years old, I thought it was soda. It was red and sweet.I almost died. It destroyed the lining of my esophogus and stomach. I had heartburn and acid reflux until age 58 when I had my gall bladder removed. From daily reflux to once a year maybe. No more Prilosec, no Tagamet, no tum, rolaids, or Maalox. I dont eat after 7pm, I'm living the dream.

Oh man! Sorry to hear that, glad you’re alive and feeling better though! I’m an asthmatic as well and was told that because of this, my chances of getting gerd were twice as likely probably due to the steroids.

Alright, so at the end of this month I’m going to attempt the first procedure and see how it goes. My surgeon reported great success with Stretta so that will be the first plan of attack! Will update to let y’all know how it goes.

Wanted to update this thread with it being 6 months after my procedure.

Last years manometry showed 40% failed peristalsis, 20% weak, and 10% had breaks greater than 5cm. Which means I only had 30% normal peristalsis.

Had my second manometry Monday and everything has normalized!!!

If you’re on the fence about getting the stretta, don’t. Most insurance companies cover it. Barring you don’t have scleroderma or any connective tissue disease, you WILL improve.

Interesting to read all this. For the past couple months I’ve been dealing with non stop heart burn/indigestion. Took OTC meds for a few weeks then went to primary care and tried some prescription meds. While on the meds I’m good but off them it’s burning all day. Now I’m back on meds but headed to the GI doctor in two weeks. Another oddity is after reviewing some lab work my doctor had me do I. The mean time she saw my liver function levels were over on the high end. She dug through previous years of blood work which thankfully I get regularly due to being on TRT, and she noticed large fluctuations in liver function from normal to high and back over the years so that will be looked into further as well.

I’m just hoping this is a quick resolution as I’ve never had problems prior and now between the burning pain and random chest pain it’s killing my abilities to do stuff I enjoy.

I go back to my GI doctor on Friday. Haven't had to see him in awhile. Gastroparesis is kicking my ass lately. Time to get back on my meds. They work like a champ but unfortunately I can't stay on them long term due to potential nasty and permanent side effects.

If you respond to meds, you’ll respond to stretta fairly well. Hell, you may even be eligible for the LINX device. Hope they figure it out quick! Have them check your gallbladder as well.

Have you had your pyloric valve checked? Yea, they tried me on that for like a week and my blood pressure skyrocketed.

One thing to take into account if you haven’t had a manometry. Your LES may just be strong enough to prevent gastric contents from coming up, but could be too weak to have the proper pressure to push things down.

I had a bout of gastroparesis because of the weak valve but it resolved once the stretta kicked in.

The only issue I’m having now is that it’ll occasionally relax still. Not as bad but still an issue. So Idk if I’ll have a repeat stretta or a possible wrap. Maybe even the linx device since motility has normalized.

I had chronic heartburn and gastric reflux my entire adult life, I took tagamet, vantax, prilocec ate rolaids, tums, and drank maalox, about 15 years ago I had a large gall stone 25mm that required gall bladder surgery and after recovery my symtoms disappeared and I take no medication for my stomach problems of any kind. If I hadn't had the gall bladder issue I may still be treating symtoms. I also had treatment for H. pilori bactor before the surgery.
Just saying sometimes Drs treat symtoms instead of finding the underlying problem.

Glad to hear they got you fixed up man! That’s all the pills do, is treat symptoms unfortunately. God forbid they have to go the extra mile and actually resolve the issue.

There's no money in the cure....Big Pharma needs customers and the doctors are just their glorified dope peddlers....
