Born and raised Brockton. Living in Naples.
Why are you on a car form then? The entire industry is built around going faster one dollar at a time. Aftermarket, OEM, et al. "Neighbor" is a metaphor, not literally the idiot that lives 50 yards from you.

Capitalism = Competitive

I’m here for the lutz. That is all.

I'm not a gambling man, but I'd be willing to bet that 99 out of 100 guys that dress like this come from (old) family money, families that lean pretty right. That's not soyboy, that's Country/Yacht Club Conservative

My generation, on average, is terrible with money.

thats what the wife is for, she works so i can buy more cars and parts. Like stated previously, a dual income where the wife actually earns some decent money ($80k+ in the midwest. this will go a long way) is nice to where we can afford some nicer things in our late 20s. granted ive been busting ass since ive been able to get a job at 15, even before that i was hustling the neighborhood with mowing lawns and shoveling driveways.

The only thing I care about my neighbor getting is a Viper. Good thing there are none in my area. I’m probably the only one in the city!
As Bruno said who cares what your neighbor does, just mind your own and do you. I’m sure I’m not the only one, but I’m ballin on a budget. Driving a $$$ weekend warrior, 3k daily driver. LOL. Now to replace DD or get a sport bike?
If I get the job I am after, my one year anniversary gift to myself will be a gen 1 or gen 2 Viper.

Going back to the OP's topic, this isnt the first time the 5.0 mustang was 50k. The 50th anniversary mustang was $50k back in 2016.
the bullitt has more tech than the 16, so it might be a better value. I mean i dont care for the bullitt, but I think the bullitt will be more sought after than a 50th edition.

I’m actually having sticker shock on the whole +18 line up. I was just getting used to a GT being a +30k car and boom, bitch is now a $40k car once you add any option package.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks like this. Most people live beyond their means and banks don't help this. We were approved for over 500k for a mortgage loan and the bank was shocked we only wanted to take out a loan for under $200k.

My wife and I are around 30. We make decent money for the area and live moderate lifestyle with equal fun and frugalness. We each put about 10% of our salary away and have 6 figures put away for retirement. Other than the mortgage we have no debt other thank about 10k left on my truck that should be paid off this year or early next. I'm at a loss though when I talk to people, some that make less and others that make more, who have no savings, no retirement, and literally nothing to show for it. I see a lot of people spend tons of money traveling, going out to eat/drink, and other non-essentials (Cars, clothes, etc.)

I have a guy that works for me that literally will talk to his wife on the phone at work about which bills they can skip paying on because they don't have money in the bank to pay all their bills. They have even drove each other to work because they didn't have money to put gas in both their cars. This guy is in his late 50s... and they just bought a brand new camper.

I think 401k’s are virtually pointless. My company does 1% match. That’s absolute horse shit.

I am required to put 14.5% into my retirement and my employer matches 100% and I'm vested immediately. I laugh every morning on my way to work. :)

That's 29% of my annual income socked away for me. I am a state employee working at a university (before anyone asks).

I think a lot of people get help from family. You can afford quite a bit if both husband and wife work and grandma takes care of kids so you have no daycare costs. People inherit money, etc. But I think most people live well beyond their means and only think about today.

You should go a Harley-Davidson dealership and see what they’re smoking.

Also, the price of cars has to be correlated to the highest minimum wage in the country. Otherwise, people in CA, NJ, and NY will buy in states like yours, OP. There may be a slight differentiation between the states but wouldn’t be much.

I just keep looking around going, How the living hell can people buy and afford this crap. I'd be eating Ramen if I had a $1k car payment or had to pay $2k a month rent.

Get a woman that makes bank, problem solved. Having 2 incomes is nice.

Wait... if I contribute more to 401k.. I get less screwed on taxes?

Noted. Did not realize that

Since your 401k is taken out pretax it lowers your taxable income. When you pull it out later you'll pay taxes on it then.

Hell I'm looking forward to that then, plus getting money back tax time cause I bought a house. And hell, woman has said marriage before end of year.

Next year tax time should be a blasty blast.

Don't get too excited. With the new tax code all your house stuff will be meaningless since the standard deduction will most likely be higher than itemizing.

i look at the 50K price tag, and scoff at the price point of the product. in may of 2012 i bought a brand new 13 5.0 w/ track pack for 30,507 + TTL. when i price 18s, i laugh. a base car + PP2 is mid 40s.

when i look at new and used car at the 40k+ price point..as much as I'm a bleed ford blue guy i laugh at that. 40k-50k is used 911/viper/hellcat/amg/m3/5/6 ect. i mean 50k for a non SVT/FP mustang? nope.

from the financial argument, we are all at different points in our lives with funds. 50k to some is not the same to the next. anymore 30k seems cheap to me, but maybe not to someone else.

I have enough cash to pay off a brand new house I bought in 2015.

Rentals have worked good though so I may reinvest. Torn.
