I found that crippling depression worked pretty well. :)

Man, truer words have never been typed. I went through a divorce in 2000. Ex wife took the kids, house, money and went with another guy. I didn't even see it coming. Hit me pretty hard (I know better now. No woman is worth that much heartache).

Anyway, what did I do? I went out and bought a 2001 Kawasaki Ninja ZX6R with little to no riding experience thinking that would make me happy. After the purchase I rode the bike from Odessa Texas to Midland Texas. Friend of mine who took me to pick the bike up was laughing his @$$ off the entire time he was behind me as he watched my wobbly take offs and my leg shaking when coming to stops trying to hold the bike up. It was the dumbest thing I ever did.

As soon as I got to Midland I parked the bike at a friends house and immediately scheduled a motorcycle riders course at the air base in San Angelo. I truly believe that class possibly saved my life. Think if I would have kept ridding that crotch rocket without proper training I would have made a serious mistake and wound up seriously injured or dead.

In the end I never really got into riding it. I was in the military at the time and with all the security on base due to 9/11 it was a pain to stop, get my ID out, put it away and then take off. Then on the weekends when I would ride my shirt would ride up my back and it was not that comfortable to ride. New girl friend did not want to get on it, so it sat. Therefore, I ended up selling it and took a $3000 loss. Needless to say I thought it was a good idea to buy a bike, and I did have some fun, but in the end I shouldn't have bought it because I bought it for the wrong reasons.

Today my son-in-law has a 2018 Harley Davidson Street Bob and keeps it at my house as he has little to no riding experience. He was smart. He had the dealership deliver it to my house and I am giving him basic riding lessons until he takes the motorcycle safety course.

So, what am I doing while it's at my house? Getting the bug out and taking it for rides :D:D:D. At my age it is so much better riding a street bike instead of a crotch rocket :).

I think the ONE smart thing I did when I purchased my Ninja was get a yellow bike so everyone could see me coming LMAO!!!

Was a Harley owner for almost 8 years. 3 different families 1 Sportster, 1 Softail and 1 Dyna. By far, the best of the 3 was the Dyna. Had the 103 CI engine, 6 speed, dual front disk brakes. I put apes and a Vance and Hines Big Shot exhaust on it. It was honestly a blast to ride. All 3 Harleys were Fuel Injected and both the Big Twins were running tunes. Traded the Dyna in for a 2014 Mustang GT which eventually turned into my beloved 2011 GT500.

The last bike I owned was a 2004 Yamaha FZ1. 4 synced carbs, 1L engine... and OMG the best and fastest bike Ive owned by a country mile! Incredible handling, started every time with little fuss (even on a cold day), twist the throttle and hold the F on.

If I ever get another bike, its going to be a 1L Yamaha sport bike.

Ouch, I am really sorry to hear that, even if it was 18 years ago. Good thing you got wise about the motorcycle situation before anything bad could happen there.

If I hadn't gotten a lower power bike before the Triumph, I'd be road hamburger. Even with a full year's experience and wringing the SV650 out, grinding pegs off it, the Triumph was still a monster. I can't imagine a 200+hp bike, seeing as how the Speed Triple was ~140hp-ish but pretty much full torque after 3k. Damn thing would give pretty much any bike out there a run for its money until 80mph where an I4 would take off.

Thanks CV355! Appreciate it. It was hard back then, but the GF that didn't want to ride the Ninja is now my wife and things are great. We all have our trials and tribulations. Some times it's not easy and things look very dark, but if you can find something positive and focus on that there is light at the end of the tunnel. As cliché as that sounds LOL.

I'm going through a bit of that myself, so believe me I can relate. Stay safe out there!

That's a nice scooter. I'm so jealous you get a plate for your bike in Montana... There are a ton of trails here in GA that are connected by forest service roads. You run the risk of getting your bike impounded if caught on forest service roads without a plate. It makes no sense....

As a result, I've been taking a real hard look at the new crf450L.

let me tell ya man, I ride dirt too, and all I can say is....it's JUST AS DANGEROUS and riding on the street. Don't let this "factor" sway you one way or the either. You can die on the dirt. Die on the street. Die in a car. If you worry about this shit, you won't enjoy your life. Ride SMART. Ride SAFE. And you'll be just fine. Too many dumb **** squids ruining the sport. Might as well cross the street naked painted black in the middle of the night. That's all I gotta say.
