Yep one of these threads...

Budget would be $25-$30k and would replace my 03 cobra.

2010-2012 GT500 - higher miles (60-80k) but holds value; already 6-8 years old.

2015-2017 GT - low miles, ‘new’, lots of potential and a great interior.

So where would you spend your money?

The 500 would have to be exactly what I want, such as no stripes. It would have to be garage kept and unmodified. Otherwise I'm going 15-17.

not at my post...
My 14 GT is just about paid off, once it is will probably get another 500. They are a great bargain, lots of power for the dollar.

I'm taking the S550 no question over that GT500. If we're talking 2013-14 GT500, maybe I'd go GT500, but I doubt it because my next big toys going to have one of these fancy automatic transmissions

I use to say "Their too heavy".... THEN I seen one at Pro Edge getting Dyno Tuned and it put down 934 whp on 93 Pump Gas! Didn't give two shits about how much it weighed after seeing that pull! I was like geeez id be nervous if I pulled up next to that on the hi way...

Weekend toy would be 500. More raw feeling, that we all crave when we get into our cars for a spirited drive.

Suprised on an svt site to see the poll split so even still. Good words none the less. Both rides have their advantages. Gonna try and get out and drive one of each in the next month if possible. Still curious of additional opinions.

Having owned and built multiple GT500's and Now completing the 17 s550 build, I will not own another s197 GT500 unless it was just to say "I own a Shelby". Power, comfort, options and drivability of the s550 is 10x any Shelby I have built. Now if they release a new GT500 well that's a different story.

My brother picked up a 2011 GT500 with 42k miles for 27k a couple months ago. Deals are out there but for a weekend car I would go GT500

11-12 Pistons in the GT500 are good for 1000 as confirmed with Mahle. The PWTA liners required a much more precise bore tolerance. Apparently Ford said to hell with it and co developed the 2012 Cobra Jet engine with the 11-12 GT500. Save for the rods, the GT500 helped the CJ amortize the engine cost. Just replace the rods with a set of Manely or, even better, Oliver rods and have fun approaching 4 digit power reliably.

Ive driven both the S550 when it came out and I obviously have my GT500. No rattles, feels very comfortable once I got rid of the terrible SVT Performance Pack rear shocks. Ride comfort is of course subjective. I work on Lexus cars and my Shelby doesn't feel any less comfortable.

One look to the Boss 302 suspension setup tells me the S197 can handle just fine. 11-12 has 100 les pounds over the hood than the 2010.

The S550 is a great car and obviously a TON of people have turned them into absolutely stunning monsters. Id go S550 for the ease of making power if you WANT an automatic. Keep in mind, youre starting from scratch when it comes to boost. Could be a good thing or bad thing. If you don't mind rowing gears though, GT500 all the way.

PS: the MT-82 is shit. The TR6060 has its issues grinding 2nd with stock syncro rings, but its can handle A LOT of abuse. Tremec has a set of Hybrid synchro rings that alleviates the 2nd gear issue. My transmission is soon to go to the local Tremec dealer for a rebuild with the new syncro rings.
