I’ve got a 2016 Explorer Sport. Nothing to complain about and has wonderful power and nearly any speed. Love the look and the comfort features. Unfortunately, I didn’t mod it.

I’ve ordered a new Expedition to replace it with in the coming months.

Just bought a 2018 Explorer Platinum. Same motor, lots of luxuries. I enjoy driving it as much ad the GT 500.

'13 Xsport here. 82k miles and tuned for the last 77k with zero issues. Pretty quick daily driver. Tune made a big difference. It shifts nice and firm. Livernois claims 20+HP and 100+TQ. Only option I wish I got we're the 2nd row captain seats.

'13 Sport here with about 56K miles (purchased new), no mods as it is the wife's car, she is completely satisfied with how fast it is. Only issue so far was the A/C compressor took a shit and was replaced under warranty at 35K miles.

older EBs had timing chain issues. However seems like the 2015+ the issue is gone for the most part. A catch can system is needed because the EB motor created LOTs of oil and sludge in the PCV system. This will also save the valves. Spark plugs need to be changed every 15-20k. And oil can be diluted with gas, so you need full syn every 4k miles. I think the newer EB motors are pretty solid. Should easily outlast the transmission.

My only gripe is the size. It's the same width as the Expedition, just a little shorter and lower, with a lot less inside room. Otherwise, I have the same drive train in my Lincoln MKS and it's LMS tuned and a flipping hoot. Ran my buddy from a dig in his 2016 Chevy SS sedan the other day and I was almost 1 car ahead at 70 before we shut down (limited space to run).

My wife has a 2015 xSport, she seems to like it. We've had a handful of problems but it's all been covered under her extended warranty. Entire Nav unit had to be replaced, transmission not in park fault, driver window motor went bad.

I'm the same as bigmoose, 72K orig. plugs.

Look for paint issues on the leading edge of the hood, and ours lost a seal on the transaxle needing a rebuild.

Since I like you guys, I'll give you a massive heads up. The 3.5 V6's in Fords, especially the earlier models like the 2013 ish have an internal water pump driven by a timing chain. They like to let go right at 100k, and dump coolant in the oil, and thereby decimating everything in it's path.
So if you don't proactively replace it, you will be replacing the motor. Thanks to that wonderful design, I made some really good money when I was a Ford Service writer. If you don't heed my advice, just be aware you'll be putting a motor in the truck sooner than later.

We have a 14 with 33K on it. We have only had a couple of problems with it (battery was replaced, not in park light came on, and an airbag sensor went out. We still need the air bags recall and exhaust odor TBS done. Ours is completely stock as its the wife's dd. The low end power is great and is a blast to drive.

If you dont need the 3rd row you might want to look at the Edge ST when it comes out. Our 2010 edge was problem free.

Bit of off-topic, but, I made a review thread on a 2018 Explorer Sport on a local forum in Chicago.

See below:

Hi TCG,

Thought I'd offer some feedback on my recent road trip to Texas in a 2018 Explorer Sport in case anyone was in the market or thinking about picking one up.

It was a 2018 Sport loaded up we got from Enterprise as our rental, had about 4,000 miles on it. We brought it back with roughly 7,600 miles on it.

I've really liked the Sports since comparing one against a Durango before eventually buying a Durango over the Sport a couple of years ago.

The Sport is all around a decent "SUV".

Looks - What can I say, they look pretty awesome.

Interior - Somewhat comfortable. The seats, despite being adjusted many different wants, proved to be uncomfortable after hours of driving. The stereo system is pretty decent and the controls are simple and easy to use. The one thing that was cool was the glass roof.

Driving - It is quick for what it is. There is a bit of low-end lag, but, good mid-upper range, since it is a turbo model. Handling is a bit squishy to me and the Sport feels very light compared to my Durango. Sport mode is fun, but, nothing over the top. Slightly better throttle response, improved brake feel and higher revving. Gas mileage was good, as we average 20 MPG the entire trip

Overall, fun car.

Here's some things I do not like:

- Does not feel like an SUV. Feels more like a large sedan raised up and that's it.
- Handling - Being dimensionally the same size as my Durango and weighing hundreds of pounds less, it leaves more to be wanted out of it and you'd almost hope it would respond better around turns under load and what not. For what it is, it handles well enough to do the job of an SUV. I will say, it is smoother than my Durango hands down. My R/T has stiff suspension and you feel the road quite a bit in comparison.
- Power everything. The rear cargo bay is all power for the 3rd row, which, in its own right is great. However, you really cannot utilize the space under the seats as there are manual releases/adjustments. This is disappointing since we like to be able to make use of all compartments when traveling.
-Glove compartment - The compartment is huge. My problem is, when my wife would drive, even with the passenger seat ALL the way back, I could not fully open the glove box without it hitting my knees/top of my legs. I'm no giant at 6'1, so, this could be just a bad design.
-Key Fob - Overly sensitive buttons. In my pocket with anything else, I kept hitting the alarm accidentally or locking/unlocking the car randomly. This is convenient if you like that sort of thing, but, I do not.
-Back up camera - For some reason, maybe I am biased, but, the camera wasn't anything special. Seemed a bit blurry to me and I did not care for it.

This is not something I can see myself purchasing, but, if you or anyone you know is in the market, this would be a great choice. Really depends on your needs.

If you're hauling family and not looking to tow anything heavy and want better than average MPG compared to other Trucks/SUV's in its class and the fun factor of driving a turbo car, this would be great. The quality of the leather and finish of the car is pretty good, aside from a few things I've mentioned above. I'd say it is certainly hard to beat other trucks/SUV's for the money, depending on said needs and expectations out of a car.

Every 15k on a stock one? That's insane.

15 Sport here.. Every option available. Stock with the exception of a JMS Boostmax and 22" Vossens..
Love the hell out of it. I also pull a large enclosed trailer (Parachute) with it. Can't even tell its there until I let off the gas and it slows me down lol. Not really a truck guy, so this is the perfect fit for a DD.

My sister has a 14 with like 65K on it and she drives the piss out of it. The only problem it's ever had is she banged up the radiator really bad off roading and had to have it replaced.

My mom had a 16 and sold it due to it being "too unreliable" because the PTU cracked and was covered under warranty.
