Saw this somewhere else. Primarily designed for fleet vehicles.

Which is good, because I have no desire to drop $600 on a digital license plate.

They have to make up their stupid debt so they can spend the money on the most idiotic thing imaginable that for some reason sounds like a good idea to a liberal.

If it only makes you have one plate in the rear and no front plate. I would actually buy it. In ny you have a front plate and this would be the only way to probably get rid of it

In the article it says you still need to have a standard front plate:
At present, digital plates are only permitted on the rear of the vehicle. California also requires front plates, so owners still must mount a standard plate there.

I also like this part:
Motorists who choose to buy the digital plates can register their vehicles electronically and eliminate the need to physically stick tags on their license plates each year, which could save the state money. The digital plates come with their own computer chips, batteries, and wireless communication systems.
So, something with a computer chip, battery, and wireless communication systems somehow has a lower cost than a sticker...got it. The owner also gets to pay $699 for the plate plus $7/month.

Not sure what the point is. Seems like a stupid idea.

If it was something like the Japanese glow plates that would be cool.

Saw my first one yesterday. Reminds me of an etch a sketch, if you ever had one. I see it very vulnerable to hacking in the future.

Lots of people in the Bay Area don't even roll around with plates to avoid paying tolls.

Sure would be a lot easier to see the tag but I don't see that on passenger vehicles for a very long time. seems like a good idea for commercial vehicles tho.

I love the part about saving time by not having to put on a sticker. I enjoy pulling the plate off, scraping the old sticker off, cleaning the plate, and putting the new sticker on every year. I am the weirdo that busts out the Xacto knife to slice the old sticker off.
