I was getting ready to buy a Genesis for a grand when a friend said, "Buy one on Craigslist for $40 and rebuild it", and lo and behold there was one three miles away for $40.

Great move. Like you said they last forever and you can just keep rebuilding them. I sold my 12 year old Red Weber for like $50 bucks. You don't throw Weber grills out.

Everything worked on mine when I bought it, too. It had cast iron grates which some people love, so I gave them to a friend, and the flavorizer bars weren't stainless and pretty eaten up so I swapped them for new ones, and the grates and it was gtg.

Weber Genesis S330 here. I've had the $200-300 grills that last a year or two. I'll never buy anything but a Weber. Mine is only a few years old but I can tell it's going to last a while. I decided to step up to the model with the side burner and the "sear station" which is just another burner between two standard burners. It works great when searing steak tips and keeping them med-rare.

Thanks for the responses guys. I knew Weber was the top of the line for grills but I wanted to see if anyone had any good reviews with another name and apparently the answer is resoundingly, NO!

You can buy a cheaper grill but its just that...cheap. And you can buy more expensive grills that are great. When I rented a vacation home years ago on LBI in NJ the house had a TEC Infrared grill. Never cooked on infrared before but had many years of grilling experience on the Webers. Infrared grills are amazing to cook on and I liked it more than my Weber but would never pay the price of TEC grills. Best value for the money will always be Weber.

We've got a few Weber charcoal grills in the family. We vastly prefer the charcoal grills over gas grills. Next grill will be a pellet grill. Probably from someone like rec-tec or Yoder.

Bought this Weber for $40 on Craigslist and rebuilt it for $300. New stainless grates, stainless flavorizers, cover. That was four years ago. You can't kill them. Same with their charcoal kettles. I gots one 'o dem, too.

Used an older model than that for 10 years. Put new grates and bars in it and sold it. Upgraded to a free one like the one in your pictures, only green, new burners and an igniter were 60 bucks. Thats all I have in it and some time. Works great! Will never buy another brand grille.

I have a Weber gas, and a Weber charcoal. I love both, but I can't fire up the Weber kettle to a brazilian degrees in 15 minutes, throw a steak on it for five minutes, then flip it for five more minutes, then eat.

Had a Weber before and it was great. It was a smaller 3 burner to use on our townhome deck. For $300 it was the perfect grill and could really put out some heat for as small as it was. Only gripe was the igniter would constantly go out and had to replace them every year or so. Great thing is that Weber uses alot of the same parts in different models so even after they discontinued the model we could get parts that cross referenced. It also never rusted and always had a great heat spread even after years of sitting outside in the elements.

My wife and I bought our house a few years ago and we needed a new grille. We grabbed a Member's Mark 6 burner with stove top for $360 from Sam's Club and its been a total beast. Stainless everything, 6 burner with bearing casters, thermometer in the lid and extra hardware. I run it at least twice a week and its been flawless. My only gripe is the odd grille pattern makes the sear marks uneven and sometimes can cause stuff to stick without grille spray. I have learned to spray the grille down no matter what before anything touches the surface. If they had replacement grates that were thinner id pick them up in a heart beat.

Works like it did when it was new.

Weber is the only way to go. Buy a quality cover if you keep it outside.

I do buy a new webber cover ever other year. They fall apart after a cold winter sometimes.

Take the plunge and get a quality ceramic grill. We bought a big green egg 7-8 years ago, and haven't regretted even in the slightest. There's a lot of hype around the ceramic style grills, and it's real. Our Egg looks pretty much the same as it did 7+ years ago, save for some surface rust on the upper vent. I can't say that for any propane grill I've had in the past. I probably could have bought 2 eggs for all the money I spent on replacing gas grills and parts...

Die hard Weber grill guy here. Just bought a brand new Hunter Green 22" charcoal kettle grill. Weber just knows how to get shit grilled, be it gas or charcoal.

Honestly took about 20-25 mins to get my coals lit in my starter chimney to the grill up to temp.

Even in an indirect heat coal setup, i got the grill to 500 degrees all vents wide open. Hotter if i had a full afternoon session of direct heat coals going.
