Curious if anyone here has done or is actively doing a ketogenic/minimum carb eating plan. Please post up what you typically consume and your thoughts on the whole thing. I am trying to shed some weight that accumulated the past several years and this seems like an 'easy' way to do it if you are disciplined. I also heard it greatly boosts energy. Going to get back in the habit of daily workouts as well, but am more looking for feedback on keto diets. Thoughts?

I did it for 6 months last year. It started when I got a high Life insurance quote. My blood work showed high triglycerides. So I did keto.

In the first 4 months I lost 40 pounds and my triglycerides dropped from 240 to 60. My cholesterol also dropped a few points. Just as you read I cut all carbs and ate mostly red meat, chicken, pork, and vegetables. For my sweet tooth I'd eat 86% dark chocolate. I did all this without setting foot in a gym, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't.

Regarding energy I didn't get a boost. Probably since I didn't work out. However, my energy was flat all the time which was good. No highs and lows. I really like the keto diet because it keeps blood sugar very even. I never felt starving on this diet. If I'm busy and skip a meal no big deal.

My go to dish was a taco salad. Fresh self ground beef, with taco seasoning. Sauteed peppers and onions. Iceburg, then top with avocado, salsa, and full fat sour cream.

DO IT! You'll thank yourself later. Id do it myself to shred up but I love my sweets too much. If you have the discipline to stay away from carbs, then its a great diet to lose fat.

FWIW I have been off and on this type of diet for years, when I strictly adhere to it, always shed weight. Carbs are ****ing sneaky and in many things people don’t even realize. I got back on the keto wagon in mid February and have lost 30ish lbs, back into my 32s, lol... The sugar, bread cravings will pass. I primarily stick to red meat, chicken, some seafood and pork, leafy greens etc. When I get a craving I will usually have a canned sparkling water (no sweetners added) or a shot of espresso off our espresso machine if I at home.

BTW..If you have Netflix then I highly recommend the documentary The Magic pill. The premise is we evolved eating meat/wild game, vegetables, some fruits that didn’t kill us, not grains, tons of sugars, starch etc that modern man eats today. The human body is quite efficient at digesting and utilizing protein for fuel.

thanks for all the tips. What are some good veggies to eat that are low carb? Fortunately I don't have a sweet tooth so not concerned about that being much of a temptation. I do want to avoid the carbs that 'sneak' in like those found in certain vegetables. I'm fine eating the foods I regularly eat with the bread/pasta removed (burgers, chicken, etc) and snacking on certain nuts or some pepperoni seems fine. I feel like cutting out bread sucks, but as long as I have some options and variety, it should be doable for me. Will check out that documentary, too.

Most of the vegetables above ground are low, no carb, it’s the in/underground veggies that are higher in carbs. Watch out for sauces, dressings etc as well.

from what I'm reading, once you get a few weeks in, your cravings for carbs pretty much goes away.

I have just started eating like this again. I drink coffee and water. I'm not a huge vegetable fan (that is food my food eats). I am big on chicken, turkey, beef, pork tenderloin, and seafood.

I stay away from most, if not all bread. I do enjoy grilled corn on the cob, beans and peas, potatoes, and carrots. I cannot seem to force myself to eat leafy vegetables.

I do have a few bad food habits. I love several different cheeses. I also enjoy Italian sausage, brats, and other sausages. If there is a stuffed crust meat lover's pizza around my diet is over.

My biggest issue is that I'm a big guy. 20lbs of fat on me looks like 40. I could possibly drop 15lbs just by shaving the beard. Lol

If you cheat with heavy carbs you won't be on the Keto diet (it'll take you out of ketosis). However a low carb diet with "cheat days" can still shed weight. Keto diets are more strict.

I played around with it this past winter. I couldn't eat all the fat. I started to hate eating so I quit. I can do high protein low carbs with some fat thrown in but mostly fat isn't for me

In essence it is the caveman diet. If it doesn't occur naturally then don't eat it. I've been reading more and more studies about how the human body doesn't even really need grains.

My wife said we need to to the keto diet because her friends do it and love it. I told her I already switched to overpriced organic, and that she's lost her ****ing mind if she thinks I'm giving up carbs. Her friends on the diet said they can only drink one Michelob ultra a day.

I have been doing it for a while now. At first I lost a lot of weight, too much. I was really trying to control blood sugar as my fasting levels had risen to prediabetic and I do NOT want to get full blown diabetes, so it is now a constant battle to stay away from carbs and sugary stuff (which I love).

A couple of months ago I joined local Planet Fitness and have put on about 15 pounds of muscle by working out hard and eating more proteins.

I'll be doing Keto diet (or similar) for rest of life, unless they come up with a way to rebuild the pancreas, hahaha. I would just LOVE to go back to eating ice cream and pizza!

I've been on a low-carb, zero sugar diet for several months. Tons of energy, zero hunger "crashes", bloodwork results are greatly improved, highly recommended. Along with cutting out sugars/dairy and minimizing carbs, I increased my fish and vegetable intake, just that easy.

Two of my favorite things:
- An avocado for breakfast (nice amount of healthy fats and fiber),
- Roasted brussels sprouts & garlic ( Garlic Complements Brussels Sprouts Nicely , finish with hemp oil for flavor/nutrients )

I dropped from 205 to 165 in 2 months. Suedo ketosis diet. Mainly paleo diet, but it was a hybrid.

+Eating home cooked grass fed open range non gmo/hormone beef/chicken/pork ($1.99/lbs for the whole chicken and I got to where I could cut it apart to grill in about 3-5 minutes)($2.99-5.99 pork as a slab or pre cut)($3.99-8.99 beef/steak/etc as a roast that I cut up into steaks, or bone in NY cuts, etc), lots of eggs, whole egg, no issues. Real and nutritious vegetables, very little if any fruit, water. Braggs apple cider vinegar is a must. Healthy and honestly excessive portions of natural oils like olive/avacado/coconut etc oils, but no crap oils like vegetable oil or so on. I had plenty of real butter as well.

-No bread, no cheese or milk or dairy of any kind. No medium to large sugar sources. I cut out the yeasts and the funguses. That shit is the problem in everyone’s diet. A bowl of broccoli has 2-3x the absorbable calcium of a glass of milk. Dairy is designed to f up digestion systems and give doctors patients in my opinion.

Precursor: I had been diagnosed with candida fungus growth, and early onset phases of MS. I had grown and beaten off shingles with antibiotics, kept getting bad ear infections monthly, etc etc. 400pts of cholesterol, clogging arteries etc at like 26-27 years old. Still was able to run a 7 minute mile or so on but would be exhausted. Lots of muscle and joint pain. Sleep apnia etc etc. I was eating basically what I eat now but I also had soda, sweets like donuts and sugar, but most detrimentally tons and I mean tons of dairy. 3-5 glasses of milk a day, lots of cheese, lots of sauces, lots of bullshit. I had healthy core foods caked with bullshit yeasts and funguses. Breads, cheeses, milks, pasta etc etc is all garbage for our human bodies.

That was then, now at 28 I have more energy than I had at 18-20. Cholesterol dropped to 175 with my allegedly terrible choices of eggs and beef. Go figure. My brain is much sharper. Muscle ake is very rare, I also heal from injuries very quickly. I bounce off walls and find myself working 80-100 hour work weeks as if it’s a game of how much money can I make. My brain feels far sharper, I mention it twice because it’s as if it went from sleeping to wide awake. I can quickly recall memories, and I also sleep like a lamb, tons of vivid dreaming, and I have loads more tenacity/clarity when dealing with uphill projects or battles.

Bottom line, cut out every yeast and fungus.

Some days I’m eating 5 steaks marinated in real butter and natural oils, a box of salad/ vegetables etc. Next day, I might be fine just water fasting and eating a salad. My body just talks to me about what it needs.

When I go off track and put sugar or pasta back in, it feels like I gain 10-20 years of aging.

A few coworkers are on it. The one girl did a cheat day a couple weekends ago. Messed her stomach and body up for 2 days.
