I'm in need of new ball joints. 2001 Cobra with stock suspension. (still in 4x4 mode)
I may lower the car but will be a while before I do as the roads I travel are bad and are under construction till next year, so I'm waiting till then to lower. Is it worth it to use the X2 on stock ride height, or just go with moog and install the X2 when I do the springs later?

Just go as with the Moog. I've never ran the X2 ball joint. And my 01 was lowered close to 2".

If you are only doing a ball joint swap right now, go with Moog. The Steeda ball joints are designed to alter the spindle height to compensate for a drop. Even with the spacers, you will have to have the car realigned (not a bad idea regardless). The Steeda ball joints affect the steering geometry of the car. That is what they were intended to do.

moog for now.

The x2, lowering springs, end links, shorter sway bar links and SB bushings are kinda a package deal..and can still be done in phase$..

even then. as stated above..the ball joints can be the last thing you redo as you lower the car...especially for a DD.

I think did my x2 and shorter sway bar links were last on my lowering list to be done...after the oem failed.

I'm 99% those X2 ball joints are stock on SOMETHING, one of these days I'll find out.

I think the extended ball joints were on the Panther Crown Vics. Those were the police cars, which also had AL driveshafts.
I'm not sure they can be commonly found anywhere...and probably wouldn't fit our SN95 arms. Raybestos has some extended ball joints, but the fit may be the same story.
