I have used Royal Purple in my 2005 Mustang GT for 13 years. the car had 150,000 miles, heavily modded,

Ported and Polished heads, Comp 127-300 Cams, LBA LT Headers, and the list goes on..

The car was a straight line car 12.29 @ 115 in the 1/4 mile and would list the front tire off the ground.

I sold it recently but it still ran as strong ever.

So what do the Voodoo engines like. would royal purple be acceptable? being that it has an Anti-wear compound zinc dialkyl dithiophosphate (ZDDP)

Oil threads are fun. I don’t have a GT350 but I would use any brand that meets the Ford spec, probably Motorcraft and an Amsoil.
YMMV.
And love to see when a 12 second car yank the wheels, that’s pretty cool

I’ve been thinking about trying Amsoil with the hopes that it might alleviate some of the engine rattle I have in my GT350. I’ve heard at least one person say it helped there’s.

i have heard the AMSOIL will alleviate the famous voodoo oil consumption problem. but have not tried it myself. i will most likely switch to that my next change. Currently on my first change a few hundred miles ago

I run Motorcraft, don't have the rattle. Not saying the oil makes a difference, just that mine doesn't rattle.

So far just running the specified Motorcraft blend - primarily just to avoid any warranty issues. But I don't run my car hard and that may be an over-riding consideration for something else if you do. I doubt the Motorcraft blend is anything really special.

I was going to be a smartass and say "10w use your search function" but you get the point:) There's plenty of literature on this already.

The camp essentially gets divided into 2 parts....the staunch "Motorcraft is what the engineers wanted/I'm afraid to change out the wiper blades because I'm convinced my car is some sort of appreciating collector's item/I don't want to void the warranty"

In the other camp is the hardcore experienced racer types who invariably have their preferences/experiences with a particular brand. Amsoil, Mobil, Royal Purple are all names that get thrown around (in equivalent blends). There's a couple of very unique people that are bold enough to opt for an alternate blend/mixture as well.

I don't think the prices between the different options are disparate enough to really venture off either way. I was considering using an alternate besides the motorcraft, but given the risk (even though I think it's small) of a warranty claim being denied, I decided it wasn't worth the tiny savings to go with anything other than the 5w-50 Motorcraft (with documented receipts for each proper interval change).

I just had my first oil change performed. Went with whatever the mechanic put in it, which is no doubt Ford's Motorcraft 5W50 recommended in the owner's manual. I've never been one to fuss over which oil I use. Although, when changing it myself, I typically go with Mobile 1 full synthetic. But in the past, I've used Quaker State a lot, Pennzoil, Slick 50, some other off-brand stuff... The only thing I conscientiously never used was the Pennzoil Probaze. They don't make it anymore (for good reason), but if I recall, that stuff was like thick mineral oil or clear silicone/teflon gel. I think a lot of engines let go behind that stuff.

yes it turned the inside of motors into wax basically. You just did your first oil change? how many miles are on the R now?

It has a little under 3300 miles on it now. I actually want to extend the interval to 5000 miles, but I can't seem to find how in the menus.
