I'm curious what the SVTp crew thinks. This is entirely hypothetical but I guarantee not a situation new to some on here.

If you were happy with where you lived and the company you worked for, would you consider moving for a new job/substantial raise/substantial promotion?

It's not something that's happening to me (for now), but I had a good friend move from what is arguably one of the best cities in the world to live in BFE South Georgia. I love Georgia, just Northern Georgia/Coastal Georgia. Not the south side of it. That might as well be nothern florida.

Anyway, he essentially doubled his salary, moved to a small town which of course has a lower cost of living, and is enjoying his life. I'm happy for him. But I can't necessarily say that if I was offered the same and had to move away from Charleston, I would take off with fire under my ass. Even if someone swung 125k a year my way, i'd have to move to a city where there was a substantial racing scene/car scene and lots to do and enjoy.

So now, my question. Would you move from a place you were happy, leave a company you like, for a big raise and potentially not perfectly desirable place to live?

I would not move away from where I am for any amount of money (realistic).

I would in a heartbeat if it was somewhere warm & not a shit hole & not in a city setting. I'm a suburbs guy. If it was a place with more cold/worse snow than here, I'd likely pass unless the money was stupid good.

Not unless I need to for work and im about to lose my house. Money cant make me move unless it's an absurd amount. 125k a year isnt even close. I like my small town. I like staying inside and playing video games. I hate cities.

If you're content, why rock the boat?
I was just about to start my own thread about leaving a good paying job for the unknown, but Im not content so...

All good points folks.

Rocking the boat is arguably the hardest part. Again, not applicable to me but its an interesting conversation to have.

I have never lived anywhere besides where I live now smack dab in the middle of the US. After my divorce a couple years ago I thought I would definitely upped and moved if it weren't for my little boy. There's so much out there to see and do and at 37 I feel like that window's closing. I say go for it because usually you can come back "home"

My answer: no. But I'm divorced with a child involved, which complicates everything.

If I were still single, I'd certainly consider it. It comes down to your personality, I think. Some people crave new experiences and adventures, and find that by living in new places, etc. Some people are more homebodies and feel like happiness isn't where you are, as much as the people and things you have around you.

I'm more the homebody type. But, if the opportunity was right, I'd give it consideration.

I answered nope.

Only reason I would move is if someone gave me a great offer for my house.

And I would only move outside of town to an acreage.

I'll take more $$ so I can increase my 401k investments. I can always get another job if I don't like it.

It really depends. My wife gets offers all the time. I tell her if it's in the Florida Keys or on the Gulf definitely yes. If it's in California, New York, Connecticut, Mass, or any other shit hole then I don't care if its a million dollars a year I'm not moving. Nor would I move out of the country.
Our kids are all grown up so there isn't any roots under my feet.

I'm a simple man. I work, go home to work out/play with kid, be with wife and repeat 5x times a day. Weekends I prefer to stay at home.

So yes, if someone doubled my salary, I would move to Bum**** nowhere. Lost the interest in the car scene when drama/shit cars/ego would ruin events. That and there are some super strict punishments for racing on the street down here.

So, I don't really care where I live, as long as it isn't a crime riddled dump.

My wife and I have had discussions about moving out of state, so yes. For the right location and a pay raise we would move in a heart beat.

I'm perfectly content living where I live now. But I'm not content career wise, which is why I may be moving within the next few months.

I moved to Vegas in the 90s without ever having been here and hated it within 6 months. However, I liked my job, liked where I worked, liked the benefits, my bosses liked me and I liked them and I was quickly given a very long leash. And that long leash is a very agreeable thing with me. I'm not positive I could duplicate that even with a larger salary and a location I liked so I stayed. But in three more years I'm outta here.

I have picked up and moved / changed jobs several times over my career. If I were younger I would do it again in a heartbeat for the right money. Double my salary? oh hell yeah, esp. if I didn't have a wife/kids involved but even if I did the wife would have to be pretty convincing to keep us from moving. Since I am of an age that I can choose to retire I am not so willing to pull up stakes and move the offer would have to be pretty damn sweet to get me to move any where
