RUST!!!!

This is one word I have never read on here, I'm second owner of my 04 and owned it since 08. When I got the car there was more surface rust then I had on my 89 that I traded for this. All of it was on the undercarriage. It wasn't much. Nothing a bit of scrubbing and elbow grease wouldn't take care of. But just the same, I hate rust. Plus I'm sure its in places I cant see or get too. I'm sure the original owner drove it when there was still salt on the roads from the winter... Jackass...

However I do have one spot that ive been nursing every time I pop the hood. Its on the inner fender right in front of the hood strut. I grab some WD and give it a blast and a wipe. Its looks like spot weld splatter. Don't know why there is a spot weld here. Its like a spot weld gone wrong. The other side has no spot weld and is smooth and perfect. It hasn't gotten any worse but I'm sick of tending and looking at it.

Does anybody else have something like this? Would love to get rid of it but don't know how to. If anybody has anything like this or any rust in bad spots post it up.

It kinda looks like seam sealer to me. But the only way to fix it right is to grind off the paint and see what damage is there. Maybe all you'll need is to wire wheel the rust off and then use a rust sealer to keep it from spreading. Once the sealer is on you should be able to repaint it. Worse case you'll have to patch it.

This is splatter from spot weld.
On my Cobra there was a lot splatter in the engine compartment that I grind down.
Ended up repainting the whole engine compartment.

Believe me I would love to wire wheel it or grind it off but its in a tricky spot with the body overlap and the fender right next to it. i don't want to make a mess of it or have it look like a patch or repair. But I agree its prob the only way to get rid of it. If it starts to get worse then that's another matter. Mabey ill get lucky and the rust will pop the splatter or seam filler off for me then I can do a repair.

Try a rust encapsulator from Eastwood. it will stop the rust in its tracks. Then follow it up with a top coat.

Unfortunately cars that live in areas that get snow, even though they may not be driven in snow, are exposed to the salt in the air. Our cars are 15 years old and surface rust is bound to happen.

For the undercarriage use Gibbs Brand Lubricant or Fluid film to stop the corrosion

pull the fender, tape off unaffected areas, and sand blast it then repaint? i'd be worried about what's happening under that fender.
