Welcome everyone to another weekly episode of which car should I get.

- Contestant #1 is a Blk w/white stripes 2008 GT500 that has been around the block a few times for the past 10yrs. It currently has the mods in my sig plus the ones that are waiting to go on.
- Contestant #2 is a DIB 2014 Mustang GT Premium has leather recaros, glass roof, Steeda cold air/bama tune, and flowmaster mufflers. It is a 4yr old young pup that has some pep in its step.

I'm going to be deploying here soon and in either case when I come back I will be throwing on a larger s/c on the GT500 and on the GT I would be adding VMP Gen 2R/Whipple 2.9 Gen 3. The GT500 is a blast to drive but I also enjoy having a nice all around pkg. Sure the GT500 can handle everything I throw at it but the GT can handle its own as well. I'm not the type that is trying to make all the power in the world. Owning a Shelby is pretty awesome but at times the newer cars catch my interest and I start thinking of swapping.

I'm like a kid in a candy store and I want to try all the different flavors. My wife hates that I'm never happy with the car I have at the time. So I'm starting to get to the point where its time to chill for a bit and stick with one for a while.

Which would you choose and why?

ps...not trying to start a one is better than the other war. They're both respectable cars.

I vote 08 500.

14 gt has very weak rods and a crappy m82 transmission.

15+ gt is a different story.

Stick with the GT500 for now.

If you want to upgrade/something new, I would wait for a 13/14 500 or a 18+ GT. Especially wait and see prices post deployment.

Just to be clear, you do currently own the Shelby?

Either keep the Shelby, or sell it and buy a 13/14 GT500 with a glass roof when you get back. If you really want newer tech, sell the Shelby and buy a GT350.

GT500, but I'd rather get a 2015+ GT with the auto trans unless we're talking 2013-14 GT500 then maybe GT500.

Good god enough with the “crappy MT82 transmission” BS.

If I already had the 500 I’d probably keep it. If I was buying one or the other I’d go with the GT - the glass roof and leather Recaros are awesome. The Coyote motor is so much smoother and with a tune you can’t help but love 7200-7500 rpms.

Add a poll to the thread (don't forget to put an end date to keep the mods happy).

I vote for the 2014 because life is too short to keep the same car for a long time. It sounds like you are ready to move on, so why not? Here's a pic for motivation on the '14 (one of my favorite mustang body styles to date, I was not a fan of '05-'09):

I preferred the chassis on my 12 to the 07 GT500 I drove. The GT500 had a ported blower/tune/long tubes so it was quite a bit stronger but the weight was obvious.

If it was me, I would wait until you get back from being deployed. The first gen coyotes are just going to drop in value while it sits in your garage and youre away.

I also don't really like the thought of a bama tune being on the car.

not at my post...
looks are highly subjective... I still like the 07-09 Shelby's, but cannot say the same for the 05-09 GT's. I do think the 14 GT looks better, more aggressive and is more refined inside. That 14 premium with leather recaros and glass roof is going to be nicer than an 08 500 hands down. There just weren't a lot of options thrown at the 07-09 cars.

This is what seals it to me. You've already invested the time & money in gathering ALL the supporting mods to step up to a bigger SC & make big power on your GT500, why not just stick with that plan? Plus it also shows in your sig that you previously had an '11 5.0 so why get into a '14 now after the GT500? Did you prefer the '11 GT that much over your current GT500?

I’d keep the GT500, I like the S197 I cars substantially more than the S197 II cars.

iron block GT500s are lunch meat for bolt on coyotes. They have 600lbs of pig iron over the front axle, out of date styling and interior/tech features.

literally the only reason to go with the 500 is for exclusivity and feeling superior to "lowly" gt owners.

2018s are nice but the price is getting out of hand.

Yes, I do own a 2008 GT500.

I had a 2011 GT before my Shelby and had no transmission issues at all. It shifted well at all ranges

You're car is beautiful. That stance and those wheels really work well.

14 is one of the best body styles.....08 is one of the worst.

I agree. 2013-2014 are perfect. I really like the aggressive front look of the 07-09 GT500's.

I had a 2011 GT and it was WAY more nimble than the GT500. Its crazy scary braking at high speeds. I'm also not too crazy about the bama tune but that can be fixed quickly.

14 off looks alone. 05-09 Mustangs just are not appealing to me......except the Bullitt(at times)

07-09 GT500 aggressive front ends is great but the back end can still be improved.

Add whipple to GT500. You wont regret it.

Whipple or VMP TVS is whats going on if I keep it. It already pulls like a freight train.

I like having interior options and thats whats missing in the Shelby. The 14 GT has a nicer interior but lacks some of the options that were available.

Well like many others owning a Shelby GT500 is on the dream list. While I did enjoy my 11 5.0 I just had to see what owning a Shelby is all about and it didn't disappoint. But after seeing what Coyotes can do its still an option. With every generation it gets better and better.
