I was in the same boat, but also ended up grabbing a new bezel. 10 times easier and I kept my old one just in case.
The only reason I polished the old one was cause it was from my Mach 1 and actually has a silver background, so I needed to keep it original. The Cobra got the new one but the plan was to give the Mach 1 the old one.
