Since when did Mustangs become hipster cars?

Lets put this to bed you old grouchy hipsters

Auto's are faster for drag racing.
Manuals are more fun for playing with your dipstick

You can claim manuals are dying, but so far they are still humming along manufacturing wise. I know because I work in the automotive manufacturing bizz and see all of the data to support it.

Between 2015-2018 MY US cars and trucks:

52,558,654 produced
1,017,614 of them are manuals.

I use this data for analytics at my job. We pay big moonies for it. I can get super granular with it too.
Just over 1 million of them out of over 52 million is a very small amount.

I get that. But I would be more concerned if there was a legitimate trailing off in production. That sort of ratio has existed for years. So nothing has changed much in the way of manuals sold vs autos

You know a hipster is about to give his non gender specific habitat companion a serious blowjob when he puts his hair up in a bun.

I will end up quoting this at some point.

Actually, I have someone to send this to right now. I friend of mine since high school decided to cone out as gay, and then moved to Seattle. He is a very confused gay black man.

This poor guy is the BUTT of all my gay jokes. One would think I should be more polite. Not going to happen. The guy is a 6'3", 280lbs black, gay hipster. Him being a friend is just permission for my jokes and BS.

Yeah manuals are not going anywhere. Just as many people track their cars as dragstrip their cars if not more. Plus autos are still more expensive. I assume for the time being autos will still lose more power between crank and wheel. And biggest is the fact we already established....they are more fun. :)

I realize that my Cobra setup will be leaving some on the table staying man trans and I am ok with that. When I build a dedicated drag car I will eventually go turbo and get the auto.

Its not like Mustangs are sold to die-hard gear heads. I see more grannies, moms, office geeks, kids, and wanna-be car guys in Mustangs than I care to admit.

Don't tell people in SC that. When I was in high school I would say 75 percent of the car guys had modded to all end Mustangs. ;)

.....but then of course we had the mildly modded Trans Ams/Camaros that put those the lightly modded Mustangs, like my 94 GT, to shame, lol.

Hell, if it isn't a Lenco, then even a regular manual is for pussies.

We'll let you have a dog gear, but we'll still have to call you gay.

I got the joke....I guess you missed mine. The "I like to win" is hella true and for a strip car with the right set-up and tune it's hard to beat. But I agree with you that it isn't why you buy an auto but why you build an auto. I went on my little rant earlier because of the stereotype. Manuals are more fun no doubt...but that doesn't mean they are superior nor are they, for the strip. It really boils down to what you want out of your car. How often do I track my car these days...little. So then my autos are faster is pretty much out the window. Am I lazier in my old age...yeah. Did my 11 5.0 hurt me physically to drive it..yeah. We all have our reasons. Quick story...I trolled this Corvette owner at the track one day pretty hard till he raced me. He had a C5 spraying with full exhaust and some other stuff. I told him I just had an 02 auto with bolt-ons. He laughed at me and I ran a 7.5 in the 8th which is a turtle but his turtle ran a 8.1. He left the track immediately. Of course I never told him I was procharged with a race transmission, 2800 stall and 4.10 gears with slicks. Now I have 200 more HP than that in an auto...life is good. :)

I have a feeling you are a closet manual transmission lover.

I have an auto in the '16 and a glass MT-82 in the '13.

Nothing like high rpm lockout and missed shifts to make you feel like a man!

I keep the '13 in the garage and have trained the wife and kids to slowly tip-toe through there, while gently humming old Ford commercial jingles and making sure not to make eye contact with it or else the transmission might completely fall out of the car right there.

But damnit, I FEEL so manly knowing that stock V6 New Edges can pull a better 60' than my 900+ crank hp machine.

Plus, if I didn't have that stick, I'd have to be using my right hand to grope my wife's tits and, well, to hell with THAT gay ass crap. Am I right?

Just thinking about how manly my manual car is just caused a 13 year old boy, somewhere in the world, to drop his other ball and grow a 12 inch long beard, while flannel shirt company stocks just skyrocketed and every woman within 25 miles just got wet and doesn't know why.

Uhm..thought I made it pretty clear I love manuals already. Especially with all the ones I previously had. But with a Military accident and a bike accident it's just too painful to drive anymore. The main reason I got rid of my beautiful 2011 Mustang GT 6 speed. :)

The Honda Ridgeline is the hipster douche mobile. It is a truck without all those truck abilities like towing, hauling, off road prowess.

No, it's a truck designed for RUBs (Rich Urban Buyers) that need a truck for their suburban life style. Buy the right tool for the right job.

Hipsters want to look outdoorsy, like they do more than sharpen crayons, like they do more than drink lattes and jerk each other off under the Starbucks’ table but without the actual work and outdoors.

Negative Ghost Rider. I think everyone here is painting a giant sweeping picture of what a "Hipster" is and are confusing it with Liberals, Cucks, Hype-Beasts and that whole PNW life style. "Hipster" is a totally dead meme now and has been for at least 10 years if not 15.

It's also not something that should be hated on as much as it is. It WAS a movement to return to traditional hands of "real experiences". Originally the whole useage of old technology (typer writers, fixed gear bikes, straight razors, flannel clothes, hand tools, vinyl records, live music, vintage cars) was to move away from modern techno-wizzardry that isolates us and embrace the actual act of living and experiencing things. This is why "Hipsters" spend 80% of their income not on a McMansion or a brand new car, but on traveling, eating out, going to concerts, etc.

The problem became everyone thinks that is cool, but still wants the easy life so a huge fashion trend happened to dress and pretend to be a hipsters. Why find a vintage bike and convert it to a fixed gear and rebuild it when you can just order a fixed gear bike? Why find old vintage furniture when you can just buy vintage looking furniture at Target? Why make coffee from a french press when you can just buy Star Bucks?

Anyway...

It is why they ride metric cruisers. They want to look like they ride Harleys without the sound, vibration, and smell.

Ridgeline is the poster vehicle for hipsters.

This is where you are horribly wrong. "Hipster Bikers" are what is behind driving up the prices of old Triumphs, Iron Head Sportsters and Yamaha Twins as they go out to build "back to basic" bobbers and cafe bikes. We've also seen a huge resurgence in the classic Chopper as well - once again brought on by young people that would be called hipsters.

The Ridgeline is a truck for Yuppies. A hipster would never spend $40k on a brand new truck so he can get mulch to put around his McMansion in the suburbs.

Not Cars, but a funny video that illustrates my point.

As for "Mustang Hipsters". News Flash - Mustangs are young people cars... and old people call young people Hipsters... soo you are just seeing Ford marketing to people dressed in that style of being Poser-Hipsters.
