Hi all...new to forum. I have searched online and am confused if the economy upshift light rpm setting on a 2003 cobra can be programmed. I’ve read where folks say the SCT tuners can do it but i’ve Got conflicting info. I went to the SCT site and chatted with one person about the SCT X4 and they said it would work so I ordered a tuner. I had emailed them earlier and got a response back after I ordered the turner that said the turner couldn’t change the upshift light parameters.
Does anyone know for sure.
Thanks

Thanks for replying! I’m trying to keep the cobra as stock as possible so I probably won’t add any aftermarket gauges. I got the car from Hotwire (his sonic blue 03). He kept it close to stock. I’m the guy pulling it away in his pic in the snow, but that’s another story.
The ideal situation would be to put the upshift light to a more reasonable rpm limit rather that turn it off, but it can be annoying where it’s set. I’ve had a lot of mustangs over the years but I’m still getting use to how fast the terminator revs. I won’t be racing the car where I would need a more visible shift light.
Thanks again

Im with you op on the stock looking interior. Subtle changes only for me. I too tried to change the upshift light parameters but with no success. This was about 10 years ago tho when the Xcal 3 had just came out. My tuner told me the xcal2 can change the shift light levels but the xcal3 can only shut it off is what I was told. If it can be done with the xcal4 id prob upgrade just for that reason of using it as a built in shift light. Let us know how you make out.

Will do. Maybe someone could share what tuner they used and how they did it. It’s the details I’m having trouble finding out.

You can't change the upshift light with your X3/4 as an end user. You need a tuner to write you a new tune and make those changes inside your tune. Then when you flash the new tune to your car using the X3/4 and the shift light will be corrected. PM if you'd like more details on getting a tune.

Thanks for the info. I had a custom tune written to do it but it didn’t change the setting. Initially they said it would show up under user adjustable options but it didn’t. I just got off the phone with the folks and they said would sent another copy and I’ll try again....
That’s really the only thing that I want to change now.
It’s becoming quite a learning experience.

Tried the new tune. Supposed to set the upshift light at 6200 rpm. It didn’t work either. Back to square one.

There's nothing special or unique about turning off the shift light. Just let your tuner know it didn't work. Probably a simple over sight he can correct for you.

I think he's wanting to make it into a normal shift light. I remember seeing the parameters in sct prp but they were really weird values in there. It wasn't a simple value like 6200rpm so i just turned it off instead of playing with it. Ive never checked BE to see how its done in there. If its something that makes sense i may have to try adjusting it.

Thanks Cj428mach. I’m new to tunes but not new to mustangs. I can tune a 750 Holley double pumper but still learning this stuff. I purchased a SCT X4 tuner in hopes that there was an option for the light...but was wrong. So I contacted AM guys and got a custom tune written. It didn’t seem to work so they sent me another one that didn’t seem to work either. They had said that you could set the light to a specific rpm for all the gears and that I could change that number. I am waiting for a reply from that one now. I also noticed that with the custom tune I lost some options like traction control off/on. I am asking about that also.
It’s been interesting.

Traction control can be turned back on they probably just automatically turn it off as thats most common. I know you don't want to be out anymore money but if you're having issues on the tune you might give Malcolm a try he's an SCT dealer and tuner.
