Also posted in the Gt500 section. Getting opinions on both side. I'm in the market for a new toy and am looking at a couple 07-09 Gt500's and also a few 11-14 stage 3 roush cars. Both will have low miles and in the same price range.

What would you choose?

I’d choose the GT500. I’m sentimental to the S197 I cars. The Coyote is a better engine but that still doesn’t mean the Condor is some pushover. The Roush 2.3L TVS is certainly capable of maxing out a stock bottom end Coyote.
Another car to consider is a Boss, that Roadrunner is a nasty dude. Love my 3V Roush and my GT; the Boss is one of the few Mustang that interest me that are of the S197 II body style.

The GT500 is heavy and only comes in a stick shift. There are far better modified cars out there other then a Roush stage 3 car which is usually way over priced for the power it makes.

Get a 2013-2014 Auto. U definitely want the LED tail lights and the HID Head lights. Them 6r80 trannies are good to low 8's where the M82 and the junk stock clutch is good to low 11's....

May I ask what the asking prices are for the Roush cars and how many miles?

If you would of said 2011-12 GT500 I would say Shelby all the way . Honestly it would be better to find a boss since they are cheap now and put some Fi on it being that it’s already forged .

30k give or take a few thousand. Under 10k miles

You might be able to get a Boss for that, and under 10k miles. Cobra jet kit, full exhaust, redline raised to 8100rpm, clutch swap, MGW shifter, various suspension upgrades, and a solid tune, you’re at close to 500rwhp N/A. And the Roadrunner responds very well to boost too.

Pick your poison.

If you must have a manual, buy a 2018 with the updated mt82-d4 and dual disc clutch.

Boss is also a great choice.

Condor GT500 a proven way to get to 700whp on the cheap but nose heavy SOB.

No bad choices.

What do YOU want OP? What are your goals?

It's gonna be a toy. Car shows and crusing. No drag racing or track use though I do like to go fast sometimes and play on the back roads.

If that's the case, I might go with the Shelby. They definitely draw the crowd. Literally every time I took out my GT500, someone commented on it. People love those cars.

Plus if you ever go to sell it, you will get back damn near what you paid (I just did).

You will have less tech (no Bluetooth, heated seats, etc) than a newer coyote car, but buy a GT500 with the Shaker 1000 stereo, it sounds fantastic with plenty of bass. I would also go after an '08+ so you can get the HID headlights and updated factory lower crank pulley.

I agree with this guy. If it’s just for leisure use and a cruiser I’d go with GT500 between those two.

It depends what you are going to be doing with the car. Cruising? Car Shows? Autocross/Tracking? Drags? Customizing?
Unless you just like the Shelby attention, an S550 is the best choice. Better rods, suspension, improvements across the board and far more potential for mods and power adders. And they are priced in the 20's for a GT. Check cars dot com.

Edit: Missed your post saying it's going to be a toy, occasional street warrior use. You'd probably like the Shelby in that case. Gobs of torque across most of the RPM range that the 5.0 doesn't have. Enjoy!

Between an early GT500, and a roush 11-14, I'd take the Coyote (all day). Between the Roush and a GT with an auto, I'd have to say auto (all day) because of the auto. But this is for performance purposes. Unless you don't have the means to upgrade to a supercharger on the GT, I'd stay away from the bigger money of either the Roush and GT500. For car show purposes, I'd get a body kit and a wing for a 3v

For a similar price I would get a Roush, the Roush looks alot better and is faster. I have a 2011 5XR phase 2 and beat a s197 GT500 pretty bad.

GT500 all day and they’re pretty damn cheap at the moment. Put 3k in a TVS, off road mid pipe, intake, throttle body and tune and your in the mid 600s rwhp depending on octane. That’s a lot of bang for the buck. And will resell better than the other options.

Agreed the Boss will withstand a lot of power but that crappy tranny/clutch is a deal breaker imo.

I’d look at a boosted boss over those two. In my opinion for the roush your just paying for a blown coyote on stock bottom end and some cosmetics.

if you can find one, a 11-12 gt500, as stated. Newer gt500's have the aluminum block, which is stronger. Then a quick blower swap to the 2.3 tvs, either from a 13-14 gt500 or a vmp. Huge power gains and if you got the one from newer gt500, it looks 100% stock. It has a TR6060, so no worries on transmission problems like the coyote's.

as a show/fun car with some spirited driving, it is the ultimate way to go. even if you stick with the stock eaton blower.

The 07-10 gt500's are nice, but just dont have the aluminum block, which cuts off nose weight which helps quite a bit with the car.

RS3's are great cars, but really need a 6r80 swap. Boss 302's are great, but not a 100% forged engine (forged pistons, and "sinter forged" rods, which are just slightly stronger than the "powder forged" stock coyote rods.) The 15+ coyote's (gen2) all have the boss rods, but standard pistons, which is good for as much power as a boss engine, roughly 800 wheel all day without issues.

the 15 RS3's may not be in your price range, but you never know... what you need to do is figure out what you want, what sort of look your going for, or what sort of ride your wanting. look at the luxuries that each offer, and choose what you like the most. everyone has opinions on what is better.

there are many options out there, and if you have 30k to spend, you have a decent amount of options. Decide what you want, and wait for it to happen. If you jump into something you dont 100% want, or if its not exactly what you want, you will never be happy.

Depends on your purpose. If I were going to the track I would get the Boss. It's simple, light, and built to run hard.

I chose the Roush because not everybody has one. Ford built a bajillion of the GT500s, and I wanted something more unique and low production.
The stock motor can easily be upgraded with the Roush Phase 3 kit- 675HP with no problems. My Stage 3 also has the Track Pack with the Torsen axle and everything that comes on the Boss.
