Last year I got a oil analysis on my 10w30 amsoil ss and everything was fine except it sheared down to a 20 weight. Was thinking about trying the 0w40 ss or would I be better off sticking with what I got? My car probably sees less than 2k miles a year but a lot of pulls to redline and gets driven in all climates but I usually don't drive it if its below freezing.

I work for Benz and a lot of our AMG stuff runs 0w-40. With that said they do consume a decent amount of oil especially the 156 engine. Not sure I would run that 0w40. Plus a lot of the buckets get chewed up as well as the cams. I know its not apples to apples different valve train setups etc but 0w-40 is like water when pouring in. Maybe try something like rotella 5w-40 t6. Or just change the oil 1 more time and watch the oil pressure....

Too late already got the amsoil 0w40. What brand oil is going in the benz thats failing? Everything ive read on bitog leads to alot of the 0w40's basically being a heavy 30 weight.

The 0w40 SS is good oil. I'm really surprised the 10w30 sheared down.
I was too. I attributed it to being driven mostly in summer and the track and street fun but maybe something else is going on.

I also work for Benz, the 0w40 used to mobil 1 but then they switch to their own brand.

Mobile 1 like 96gt02 said. We still use Mobile 1 in the AMG vehicles as well as the high soot Mobile 1 esp on the Diesels and then we use the Benz branded oil for the pre-paid services.

I dont remember the details of the report and I can't find the report from last year. Im slacking lol I havent even sent out this current sample yet. I'm liking the 40 weight so far. I have a noisey engine and it seems the 40 weight quieted it down a bit.

Got my report from blackstone on my last amsoil 10w30 drain. Everything was within spec and tbn was still good at 7.5. Only thing was viscosity @ 210 was a little low at 56.2, should be in the 58-65 range. No fuel or water in the oil either. Oil saw about 2k miles but thats 6 quarter mile track passes and I don't know how many pulls in Mexico on pump E75 full time. Probably could have ran it longer but it was in there for a full year.
