I have my order in on a CPR turbo kit 76 / 83, and want at least 9-10 psi to start out. I'm coming from a waste-gated Paxton kit, which is working really well, and it's at 9.5-10.5 psi on E85 currently, and that's the reason I'd like to have at least similar boost from this turbo kit. I see simple manual controllers for under 100 bucks, and then there's the 500$ boost leash controllers and stuff like that. I just want something that'll give me a little more than spring pressure, and kept simple, at least to start off with, lol. Here's one That I liked, seems simple enough , and yet might be able to keep held with a foot brake on the "low" setting. https://www.americanmuscle.com/turbosmart-dual-stage-manual-boost-controller-manu-install.html

I have the E-Boost 2 on my CPR car and it works the way I want it. Given I'm on a stock motor so I leave it at 7psi but I've never had any issues with it. It also has all the fancy functionality like boost by gear and boost curves based on RPMs. It's a little pricey but if you're installing a CPR kit you might as well not cheap out on the controller in case you ever want that advanced functionality.

That Turbosmart one is kinda cheesy. Not what u want with a CPR Turbo kit. I have the E-boost BC and it works ok. Probably gonna switch to the Leash BC or just put an AMS 2000 on it.

Thank you both. Did either of you guys ever run it with just the waste-gate spring, and happen to note what your boost was at at that time? Also Ryan, do you have any track times, or dyno numbers at 7psi that you're running?

I've been to the track 3 times since getting the turbo and I managed a best of 11.8 @124mph with a 1.85 60ft. That's on a stock MT82 with a McLeod twin disk and some old MT ET streets. New slicks for this season and a aluminum driveshaft, I'll be interested to see if I can get below 11.5. I was having trouble launching off the 2-step, just kept breaking loose at the line. I also suck at driving haha

Car made 611/561 at 7.7lbs of boost with right around a 11.8 A/F ratio. I'd show the graph but it won't let me post a photo.

That's not bad for pump gasoline as far as the whp #s, especially considering only 7ish psi. Thank you.

at 10 lbs on a Mustang dyno I was at 640 whp/ 600 tq on a stock motor. probably 700 or so on a dynojet. I put a 4lb spring in my Wastegate so no didn't run off the spring only.

U will want the smallest spring possible with a decent boost controller so u can control boost off the line otherwise u will just blow the tire off the line and have a shitty 60 ft. I would also get a 2-step. MSD makes one cheap for like $250. and if have an Auto get the transbrake.

I have a $20 ball and spring manual boost controller from Amazon that works perfect with my twin turbos.

/\Yeah, I've used some good EBC's and the boost response between them and a "ball and spring" MBC is barely noticeable. Unless you like to change boost settings frequently, the MBC works just fine.

These mbc's are pretty much a metered or throttled small air leak / air bleed, on the boost reference on it's way to the waste-gate, correct?

/\Pretty much. All it's doing is tricking the waste gate into thinking there's less manifold pressure.

On my GN I used several manual ones. The first one was a home made Grainger Valve unit the second one from TurboXs. Both worked real good for the boost I was running but the TurboXs version was much better at 35psi of boost.
On my 2V Mustang I use the Eboost2 but dialed it in with only the WG spring which is 17psi with the Eboost set at 32psi. On the spring alone (17psi) it was very predictable and steady.
