I would pass on that one.
Stock bottom end + 500hp = Kaboom!
May not be tomorrow, but it's gonna happen. Unless you plan on building the short block anyway.

I would eventually do a teksid block with forged internals. Thanks for the info!

I may be in the minority here (since I know a lot of people think SN's are cheaper than dirt), but I'd be asking $15k+ if it were mine.

Recaro's, griggs SLA, intercooled Vortech, built trans and rear, and low mileage. Those are all major items.

That car is a forged short block away from being the perfect SN in my opinion.

I also agree with ForcFed93 and 2DXTRM.

This thing is loaded up with very high quality parts, which indicates to me it was probably very well taken care of.

You can do a nice, forged shortblock for about $3k. That is not a lot of money in the grand scheme of things. It is a hell of a lot cheaper than buying a car with basic mods and trying to build it yourself to get anywhere near what this car has on it.

What are they asking for it? Knowing nothing of the mileage and general condition of the body/interior, I don't think it is out of the question to expect to pay somewhere in the $12,000 range give or take.

The Griggs sla system alone is worth a very pretty penny, I’d change the diff out and rip It on the road course and call it a day. Drop 15k on it and enjoy your new ride.

It already has a teksid block and forged crank but still has the least desired heads, powdered pistons and cast rods. Personally I’d pass, but would still want to see photos.

I was meaning I would just do a forged setup as the teksid block is already there. I’ve read that the heads are fine with boost and can support 1k hp.

I have a 98 Cobra vert. I purchased new from a local Ford dealer. That is similar to the one your considering.

I’m picking up the Teksid block and rotating assembly today after some light machining (hone the cylinders) and balancing of the rotating assembly (new forged 2618 pistons and forged steel rods. And the stock forged steel crankshaft).

But even with doing all the work myself (except welding and machining) I’ve spent a small fortune building it properly using only top of the line parts.

If I were in your shoes I would go for it but, plan on rebuilding the engine as soon as possible with more robust rods and pistons. Else your sitting on a time bomb! It’ll be far less expensive to build before a catastrophic failure then after.

Got nothing else to add to the discussion. $13,000-15,000 is probably a fair price for the car considering all the goodies. I see hes asking 13k, so maybe shoot for 11k and see what happens?

Agree that the short block is on borrowed time, but Im not as pessimistic as others, given the sellers description of "500 plus horse car as is . On vortech tune." He might just mean the car is capable of 500+, but is only running the off-the-shelf vortech tune. If thats the case, the car might only be putting out 450-480 right now. Thats the one thing I would want to clear up with the seller. Should shed some light into the shortblock condition.
