just throwing this out there,

read a lot on this issue..

something I haven't seen was change to cooler in intake..

is there more room for a larger and wider cooler?

all I ever seen was change in rows..

from my research it seems like the ultimate solution is

1. Bigger gt500 HE
2. Stock intercooler inlets opened up in diameter (justin wheeler fab? I believe does this)
3. stewart intercooler pump
4.Larger diameter lines throughout
5. Racebronco hood
6. The rabbit radiator that racebronco has

No particular order but I personally did the racebronco hood first as everything else in the "puzzle" seems to be readily available versus the hood.

Any heat exchanger with more surface area than the stock unit (or after market heat exchangers) will be better. Better only if you can get enough airflow across the whole surface and only if you have a way to get all the air thru the radaitor opening. If you do not have one of my hoods or similar you will not be able to get enough air flow and the air actually builds up at the radiator opening. Any bigger heat exchanger you install you will need to get more airflow. You will notice that the bumper support is about 6 inches tall and will impede air flow thru the bigger heat exchanger. I have a 80's Volkswagon Rabbit radiator as a second heat exchanger. I have cut out vertical part of the bumper cover directly behind the license plate. I than installed a black license plate frame and used a mesh filling the hole where the license plate goes. I have wing nuts for quick removal and install of either the mesh of the license plate frame.
Ahhh, the man, I was hoping you would reply! Looks I’ll be getting a gords h/e, and I’m already on the list for the group buy of your hoods. Just waiting on Steve for updates and what not. I think with your hood and a bigger h/e, it should help some. A little off topic, what would you reccommend as far as oil cooler goes? Mines leaking, again, after being rebuilt less than a year ago, so I’m done with the factory oil cooler/heater. Do these care really NEED an oil cooler, or should I just delete it all together? I already have the MM filter relocation, I’m just having a hard time piecing together an external oil cooler.

Interesting.... I’m going to have to look into the stewart ic pump. Haven’t heard of that one yet. Only heard of jabsco and meizere ones.

I recently picked up an AFCO GT500 HE with dual fans. I have a new bumper support on the way as well. I plan to eventually as funds permit run the Justin Wheeler set up and a trunk tank. Then phase out my Killer Chiller.

I’d love to do the upgrade intercooler outlets at some point, but time is of the essence, as I’m trying to get the car ready for my annual outing at TX2K. Also, not sure how a trunk mounted tank setup would work me as I like to road course the car, and not take it down a dragstrip.

Yea there's nothing that comes close to the stewart emp pumps, especially when using 3/4-1 inch diameter tubing. Buuut they are expensive like $500 because they are brushless motors with an attached esc.

Ya, sounds like an upgrade for when I do the widened intercooler outlets.

I have found out once you get your engine temps in check you oil temps will be in check too. I have an oil cooler in the passenger side fender but honestly i really don't think i need one once i figured out the hood was the key to keeping these cars cool.

Before i designed and tested the hood i had the LFP heat exchanger , bigger radiator. The environment i tested the cooling system was extreme. I found out that bigger radiator and heat exchanger only allowed the car to run longer but it would go into limp mode too. On the street both the bigger radiator and h/e would help on the street. If you run back to back you will lose hp on the second and third run, not enough time to shed the heat from the system. I would not hesitate using a VW radiator as a heat exchanger. The surface area of most of the heat exchangers is roughly 20 x 6 which is 120 sq inches. The vw radiator is about 16 x 16 which is about 192sq inches.

If anyone needs a hand with installing this stuff or getting a hold of it hit me up. I'd be happy to help.

GT500 HE with fans - you want fans, even at speed.

I guess we will find out here shortly. I ordered parts for an external oil cooler and should be plumbing that up in the next week or so. I also am in line for your hood. So whenever that gets done. I should have a good comparison on how everything works.

Thats a super nice setup you have! I contemplated the gt500 one, just wanted a simple bolt on and go solution for right now, as I’m in a time crunch. I for sure want to do the upgraded intercooler inlets/outlets sometime this year. Not sure a big tank in the trunk would do anything for me as it will be a DD/slash roadcourse car.

How much work is it to get the GT500 HE to fit malcom?

Not much. Remove the bumper and the factory crash bar. Install a tubular crash bar and weld a couple tabs on it to bolt up the GT500 HE. The bumper goes back without any trimming or cutting.
