Top 5 "must do" mods

I spent some time on the stickys, reading and researching...I'd like to get a general consensus on what would be considered the top 5 things anyone with one of these should do.

My car is probably going to spend it's time (with me) as a weekend cruiser, car show car, occasional evening drive...No hard racing or competition driving. I may autocross it once I wrap the front end, but that would be extremely rare.

I use my RS for autocrossing mostly and my GT350 has a JLT CAI, Shelby transmission scoop and Lund's Flex Tune installed. I'll be adding the trans cooler this year as well.

Anyhow, back to the Cobra....
I know I have to put the exhaust parts back on (catted Mac Prochamber, Magnaflow catbacks), and the lowering springs (Kenny Brown Performance), This car is dying for a better sound and more aggressive stance. Beyond that, does a CAI/tune really matter? Would I really feel a difference enough to spend the money on it? Especially if I want to keep the car relatively stock? Should I do the pulley swap?

I already have most of the parts I think...I have an old predator tuner that's tied to the car and some CAI pieces that look "Frankenstein'd" together, such as a Steeda heatshield/filter, BBK Chrome intake tube, and a K&N CAI Heatshield and filter.

Thanks!

Based on what you intend to do with your Cobra, here is my top-5 list. I'm not listing recommended brands because the choices are pretty broad and it usually boils down to personal preference.
1. Catback & midpipe
2. RAI (keep it simple)
3. Lowering springs
4. Short throw shifter
5. 2.90 pulley and tune (and 4-piece billet idler kit)

With a safe tune you're looking at around 450rwhp and 470rwtq. Very satisfying power and torque on the street.

This sounds like more of what I want to do. I have to assume these intake parts were doing just that, more Ram Air than CAI...I have the exhaust and springs, so its just pulleys and the dyno tune. Totally seems reasonable, and at a power level that's still driveable by my wife...She'll be driving it at times as well...

Thanks Bob, great suggestions...

Cold air, exhaust, and upper only will be a definite noticeable difference thats worth the money.

I 1 of the few who stayed stock..

headers
off road mid
rear tires
performance tune
373s..

hand tune for reliability and no need to go to anyone.

I feel with mine, if I could hook, car would be twice as quick

will be just below what cobra bob suggested in power..

I feel this is plenty of power for basic fun..my wife has many miles in it..

it sounds like you have a faster car anyway to race..

A pulley and tune really wakes these cars up. Heck, a decent tune makes a difference. Mine came with a 2.8 pulley and a canned tune. I retuned it and still noticed a difference.

as your power level increases, your wheelhop issues will also.

stiffer irs bushings will make a drastic difference. whether that's prothane or FTBR is up to you. my opinion is that the extra hassle and expense of FTBR stuff is not worth it for this sort of use of the car.

Hi,
If I were to do this, do I need to upgrade the MAF, fuel pump, heat exchanger or the injectors?

Thank you

I think Bob and I are reading the question different than everyone else. I am reading it as basic mods to begin with and Bob is spot on. You can swap springs out with Subframe connectors but either are nice. If you are keeping the IRS a bit of work to do there especially with it being what almost 16 years old on some of them and bushings getting old.

For those that sad E85 or bigger blower as first mod is that not really like 5+ mods in one? Bigger blower you will need Fuel components, Cooling components, tune, clutch, input shaft, Flywheel and so on...

With Bobs listed Mods you should not need a new MAF, fuel pumps, injectors, or heat exchanger.

Thanks Gents, really appreciate all the feedback and suggestions. Yes, I'm really not looking to do much to this car at all. I'm looking for things any Cobra owner would consider priority and don't detract completely from the originality much.

As for how I'll use it....
To put it a better way, this car might see 3-4k miles a year. The Cobra will be driven on country cruises, to car shows and club meets here and there, and only in nice weather. In the summer, I try to drive the GT350 as much as I can because it rarely moves in the winter (never below 40 degrees, sunny and dry or not), but spring and fall here is definitely convertible weather, and I live out in the country. But you can see, with as little as it'll be driven, why it wouldn't make much sense to do things like blower swaps and full suspension upgrades. I might put my foot into it while accelerating down a long, open stretch of highway, but otherwise, it'll get babied.

As for the mods, None of which will be done, save for springs and exhaust, which will probably get done next week, until I get the exterior ceramic coated and the front wrapped with xpel. After that, I'd be looking at the intake/tune options.
