I have a quick question, I am going to be upgrading my blower and some other stuff and wanted to get longtubes but not sure if I will yet. When I do I will probably need to get catted for emissions unless I find someone who can take care of me. I have an off road x pipe and love how loud it is but know I need longtubes. I was wondering the people that have longtubes with cats is it loud? My setup will be LT with Catted X Lethal OTAs and Flowmaster outlaws. If not might just keep the off road x's and swap when I need emissions

It's pretty damn loud. I had Borla Tourings and went back to the stock exhaust. I've since installed 18" long 3" resonators and hoping that it won't be bad going back to the Borlas.

Off road H pipe and factory 2011 mufflers was loud as hell.

Cat should quiet it down some, but those outlaws will SCREAM. If the mounting flanges on that lethal OTA is 2011+, find a set of 11-12 factory mufflers and go from there. If its not loud with an offroad X pipe, headers and 2011+ mufflers, then try the outlaws.

I’m running catted H pipe with headers and have ran both the Bassani axle back and the stock 11/12 axle backs. It has a nice deep tone and is plenty loud when you step on it. I would wager the outlaws on the catted header setup would be stupid loud.

Just put longitudes on my 13 and I went from Kooks mufflers back to factory quads. With 1-7/8s kooks, off road X and the stock mufflers its still pretty darn loud! if you stay out of it its not bad but once you get into it everyone around will know your coming! This is with STOCK mufflers! The catted mid pipe will help some.

I have a 2012 Super Snake with Borla Stingers catback and 1 7/8th American Racing Headers with their catted x-pipe and it sounds unreal when you get into it. It's not to loud at idle and nice at cruising speeds. Guys at ARH said my cats will eventually burn out because of the high temp of Kenne Bell Supercharger but I'll just hollow them out after that.

on my 5.0 it didn't matter if it had cats, the sound was the same... drone came from the off road x pipe and loudness came from the mufflers.. i have the full SW system with chambered mufflers.. personally i'd get the resonated x pipe with the mufflers.. the drone gets old on long trips

Depending how crazy your going to go on the power, I'd be weary running cats all the time. I'm not finding too many hits on google in fact checking, but I could of swore I've read stories of cats melting/crushing/clogging and hurting motors at 650+whp.

Cat failure at these power levels is compounded in boosted applications. So if you don't start to melt them at these power levels then your pushing so much air through them they start to blow out.

That's my next plan of attack if the resonators don't quiet things down.

Is there really much more power benefit going with LTs and catted H over just replacing the stock mid pipe with a good catted mid like Stainless works?

After seeing my dyno numbers (530whp/466tq) compared to several others with similar mods but much better torque numbers, I'm certainly missing some torque because I still have the stock mid pipe.

Honestly, buying and installing and aftermarket catted midpipe would be a waste on stock manifolds. Youre still going to have the same restriction with no increase in scavenging efficiency.

Headers work so well because each cylinder has its own dedicated exhaust tube down to the collector. The exhaust pulse is much more powerful compared to a log manifold. Once the cylinder exhaust and pulse reach the collector, its passing creates a "vacuum" if you will. That helps "pull" the next cylinder's (same bank) exhaust out of the combustion chamber.

Thats why headers can reduce overall boost pressure in our cars, but increase the power potential. Even with a high flow cat placed back in the exhaust stream, the headers make the process efficient enough to see an power boost.

Additionally, thats why X pipes make a smidge more power than an H pipe. An X pipe essentially creates another collector by joining bank 1 and 2 together. Each bank helps draw out the others exhaust.

Thanks! That makes a ton of sense.

I've already got a 2.5" upper pulley so I'm thinking a 10% lower would help with any boost loss from LTs.
