Fact checked the 1000 mile / 1 quart oil burn issue on the Voodoo engines

Hey Ghoust, is it possible the oil consumption is potentially due to high crankcase pressures and it's being pushed/sucked into the intake via the PCV? I'm sure someone out there has installed a separator by now and checked for this?

I’d guess that’s far too much oil consumed for that to be the reason. Crazy how much oil those things go through. Also confirmed with a local GT350.

12:1 compression and an 8200rpm redline makes for an engine that I bet has huge vacuum which will cause huge oil consumption.

Look at how much oil the Coyote consumes with a vacuum of 20+inHg, I bet the Voodoo is at least 25inHg

My thought too. Better crankcase ventilation and an catch can will probably fix or at least reduce it.

His sig says he has JLT oil catch cans on it. Dunno.

How did they get the car to pass emission requirements with that much oil consumption? Great cats?

Yep. The oil seperators went on at 300 miles for this car. I am using passenger and driver side. The interesting thing is that the manual said to install aftermarket oil seperators if I will be tracking this car. So I guess they are aware of the oil burn issues.

not at my post...
Honestly think you just need a better catch can setup. Those JLT separators really don’t have the canister volume to be real effective. You may also consider a CFM vented filler cap, has a one way check valve, only vents, relieves crankcase pressure and will not draw in unmetered air.

Fathouse makes a great vented can for boosted setups and they are making one for NA cars soon, vented setup for both sides.

FWIW, even with a proper catch can setup you will want to monitor oil levels. The cans just keep it out of the intake tract. This is just the nature of high compression/horsepower motors. I have had this to varying degrees with all of my LSx powered cars and my current coyote.

Common issue. Not much different than BMW has had this issues for years now. As stated just things to pay attention too. Check your car every 2 weeks add oil as needed and enjoy the car.

About 6 months ago a buddy of mine grabbed what appeared to be a sweet deal on a ‘16 GT350 TP... it had just under 5k miles. The car 2 previous owners but was mint. Driving the car spirited is so much fun! He admits he’s driving it more aggressive than he did his Boss LS.
He recently asked me how much oil my Boss burns. I told him “none ever”. He said his LS never did either. He then admitted to me in 3k miles he’s added about 4 quarts. He’s had it to the dealer and they have started the oil consumption check, but told him up to 1 quart per 1k miles is in the normal range for the Voodoo motors.... seems excessive to me.

Go broke keeping oil in the bitch lol. You just never change the oil? Just keep cycling a fresh quart through it every 1,000 miles?

Now that's an idea. Sale oil additives separate, Add to 1 quart of oil, simulates an oil change. Well guess it doesn't "clean" the oil though, so never mind horrible idea.

$10 a quart, at 100,000 miles, you've literally dumped a $1000 worth of oil in it, on top of $2,000 (100k/5k * $100) worth of normal oil changes. That sucks.

Hopefully the GT500 doesn't share the same inefficiency.

THankfully..because I have other vehicles, I only am able to put about 5k miles per year on this car so i shouldn't go through too much oil. But still it's interesting. I guess the flat plane crank high compression motors also have their nuances.
