Anyone else frustrated with Ford over the next GT500?

Its fun speculating and it would nice if it had 772HP and I would probably put it in the cart if it did. At 800 it would be a must buy ;)
I'm thinking the torque number will come in at about 90 less than HP. I think it will be around 750HP and 660T

Rule of thumb for BHP numbers with a power adder is... catback, cai and tune will get you BHP numbers at the wheels. Up the boost with a pulley, throw a little timing at it with 93 and gain more at the wheels than the listed 772 BHP number.

If and when they hit the street, I don’t see why lots running around won’t be at or around 825-875 rwhp. This will set the next standard for numbers similar to what the Terminators did with the same mods and get a quick 460-480 rwhp.

The interesting thing will come when the Whipple Gen 5s (or other similar and comparible models) are connected to the GT500s. I wonder if the new standard then will be 1000 at the wheels with supporting mods and all.

I like your spirit, but I'm not modding this next one. I would be trading it in a couple years down the road for the hybrid straight line version, which should put the power down hard. I'm on the fence with this next one but at 772, I'd probably do it.

I don't believe Ford will challenge the ZL1 1LE. Ford has it's hands full with the base ZL1. I have no doubt it'll out power it tho.

Totally disagree...I think the plan is to smash the ZL1 in all categories. Just guessing though....not claiming some insider told me anything.

I think it comes down to how many versions of the GT500 they offer and the options. I can see where a GT500 is faster both in a straight line and on track than a ZL1 but falls short of the ZL1 1LE around the track. Then a GT500KR or GT500R that blows the door off the ZL1 1LE on the track.

The ZL1 1LE is not something you want to daily from a ride perspective so if Ford Performance can beat it and still over a good ride then we all win.

Well everyone already griped about the "ricer wing," but I dont know how they expect it to put down 700+ horsepower in a competent fashion without it... No GT500 without some serious aero will touch a ZL1 1LE, 700+ horsepower or not.

I think we’re giving the zl1 1le too little or credit. It’s ridiculously capable. For Ford to comfortably out pace this thing, we’re entering hyper car territory.

I’m as big a day dreamer as anyone, but I see it a stretch to say this new gt500 is going to enter corvette z06 z07 package territory guys.

Maybe some kind of gt500kr or gt500TA if you will, but I’m not expecting it to do this.

That said, I’ve plastered this forum a half dozen times with this but I’ll say it again, the driving experience is as important and more so than the overall numbers. If it fits like a straight jacket, is sketchy like an axe murderer, and uncooth like a gutted whale, no one will care how fast it is.

This is why the viper never broke out. It was an exceptional corvette fighter but not at a 33-50% premium in price

The C7 Z06 was sadly underwhelming, the aero created way too much drag and not nearly enough downforce for that level of power. It's too oversteer prone, which is why the Zr1 actually has a wing. Putting proper aero on the ZL1 1LE, the same engine, and good tires, it's not hard to see it in C7 Z territory. Chevrolet has never been afraid of stepping on the Corvette with the Camaro.

Hellcat is already doing everything you mentioned above.

Additionally... The sad thing is I don't think the new GT 500 will weigh much less then a hellcat. 250-300 lbs maybe?

Hopefully I'm wrong.

They do seem to be easing up in the weight category but then again, GT350R was advertised as being on a lighter scale.

Still yet, they are talking about another year before the GT500 hits the street, maybe a few models the end of 2018?!

A lot can happen from Dodge and Chevy for their next year models. Who knows, Dodge and Chevy could both twist a little with their next models and advertise in the 700/800 range. This would make the GT500 speak sound obsolete fast.

Shrug.

I want to get excited thinking the new GT500 will be a real game changer and I keep waiting. Won’t take much more before I go ahead and jump in a newer 911 Turbo and call it a day, for a while.

How long do you think it will be before GM decides to stuff the new Corvette 750 HP motor in the ZL1?

If I had to guess, a good year after the ZR1 is out and about. Not sure though but seems quick decisions are being made these days to stay a step ahead of the competition.
