Switching from RP to Mobil 1 questions

Hey guys,

I wanted to get some opinions on this. I just picked up a 2002 GT, 4v swap, with a Vortech V2 supercharger. The previous owner ran 5w30 Royal Purple HPS in the car. I personally haven't ever been that big of a fan of anything but Mobil 1. On the next oil change, I want to switch over to the Mobil 1 full synthetic, run it for about 1000-1500 miles and short change it to get the rest of the residual RP/zinc additive out, and fill it back up with more Mobil. Anyone have any input on this? I just wanted some reassurance.

Chances are you'll never see any difference, especially if you change it often. Run whatever you like.

Thanks for the reply! I've heard the "once you start using a specific oil, stick with it" thing a few times but I never saw as to why it would hurt anything. That, and I typically my vehicles' oil every 2k miles at the most anyway. I'm a little OCD.

At those OCIs you could run basically anything and the engine would stay squeaky clean inside.

Ive used nothing but Mobil 1 full synthetic for the past 13 years in my Saleen when I pulled the engine at 63K to replace with built short block it was clean and I could see the hone marks cylinder walls. My OC frequently is around 5K. 30K in on new block and 10k in on TT setup and all look great.

I plan on performing the same ritual on my 5.2L.

Both are great oil choices in my opinion. I’ve used royal on my imports for a long time, but still stick with Mobil1 for America’s V8

Thanks guys! I'm just a loyal Mobil 1 user. I just hate changing something after it's been ran through it for a while.

you should run what will makes you happy. We all have a preference and I would switch to the oil of my choice

This! @BLKFOX, you're changing your oil at 2K max intervals anyway so use whatever oil you prefer. You not going to see any difference as far as engine protection. Back in the day, I changed my oil at that same interval, and used a blend 90% of the time. I couldn't justify spending extra for a full synthetic when it's only seeing a max of 2K miles.

Thanks guys! I was just curious. I'm a little OCD and probably change the oil too much but I guess that it's better than not changing it enough! haha

Your definitely throwing money away. I can show you oil analysis that shows Castrol Edge 5w20 @7,500 miles is still absolutely perfect.

I understand that's the case with a lot of tests. However, I'm personally more comfortable knowing that the oil in my car is in newer condition. Most of the time, I change the oil early because of the time span that the oil has been in the car, not necessarily the miles on it. For my peace of mind, I'm alright with throwing that money away :D.
