The new yukons are super nice. The Denalis are the top dog but really the interior is slightly better and it comes factory with the 6.2, but doesn't sound like you need that. The 5.3 is a great motor that gets great mileage on the highway, and I don't see reliability being an issue

This but go for the 6.2 for the power. You will probably end up doing a CAI and tune anyway. :)

Hate our QX60S.. Less than 10k miles in 3 years and was in and out of the shop constantly. They could never find out why it made clunking noises randomly. Like, really random. The NAV system went out 2 times and then they replaced it. Works now. Car rides a little rough for a "luxury" SUV.
Overall, hate it. 2 more months until the lease is up.
We haven't had ours long so time will tell but I know quite a few people with them and theirs have been rock solid. We'll see how it goes but so far we're happy with ours

My wife and i are in the same boat. Had our 2nd baby at the end of december and you are right. the car seats take up so much damn room. I have a quad cab ram and she has a crv. Passenger seat in my truck (with car seat behind) puts her knees in the dash. Next truck will be a mega cab ram. CRV is way too small. This is our second crv and im now convinced they make them for strictly city driving smooth roads. CRV feels like it is going to fall apart when hitting bumps. Hondas just arent built tough enough for rougher roads. The tahoe/yukons are super nice. They are big though. Pricey too. I am also considering the Durango RT. Love the 5.7 hemi. Body roll in a larger suv would be a concern for me. Those QX80 are nice, but they start out at $65k. Holyfreeholees

Lots of great suggestions in this thread. Thanks everyone. I hadn't even thought of some of these.

Wife has it down to:
Land Cruiser
XC90 T6
Durango SRT

Yukon / Tahoe was too big for her in the city
GX460 didn't have enough room in the back for the car seats
Pacifica isn't AWD
She didn't like the Q7 versus the XC90
She and I both hated MB's technology in the GL/GLS. What kind of maniac designed that interface?

My thoughts:
I know the Land Cruiser will last us forever. Engine is boring though and has sucky MPG for the power.
Not familiar with the XC90 yet.
Durango SRT would be a blast, but will it last and be reliable? Same MPG as Land Cruiser with gobs more power.

I remember this post from not too long back.

I don't remember reading any horror stories. It's essentially the same thing as a Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT, but with a 3rd row. Just so you know to google both platforms.

So far on the 2011, in the less than 15k miles I've owned it, at around 110k~ it needed a water pump and a new battery. Both appeared stock when I pulled them. I'm not used to water pumps not lasting but, other than that, solid. Can't complain really. Water pump wasn't bad at all, at least you can still work on it if you have to.

100% the Land Cruise and yes I am 100% biased. Its a bulletproof design, and I haven't herd a single instance of the latest gen driverain having issues. Big? Yes. Fuel mileage a little annoying? Yes. build quality is second to none and its safe.

Oil Changes every 10k, tire rotations/balance and battery check every 5k, air filters and wiper inserts every 15k. That's it.

I vote Land Cruiser.

I'd probably go for the LC as well out of that list.

It's going to be the most reliable and if she wants something different in 5 to 10 years it will be worth a significant amount more than the other options.

I would vote Pacifica but it doesn't come in AWD but man what a fantastic family car. I have a 2013 T&C and we love it, the stow and go is a must. We usually put one captains chair in the floor so we can put a cooler behind the passenger seat, one kid(usually the youngest) sits behind the driver seat and the other kid gets the back seat. If we need more room we can drop one of the back seats into the floor. We also love that it is fairly easy for my wife to climb to the back while I am driving to tend to the kids if needed.

LC was great... except for the rear seat video screens. Total deal breaker. Huge, poor quality, unnecessary, and take up so much room that the car seats wouldn't fit with them in. '18s can be ordered without them but a new one is over budget. :-(

I'm going to have her drive a Tahoe again.

Folks with an XC90... I'm just worried about the turbocharged AND supercharged 4 banger. This just seems needlessly complicated to me. Why not a turbo OR S/C v6?

Go rent her a Tahoe or Yukon for a few days. She'll get used to the size quickly and won't look back. We have a Yukon w/ 135K on it and it drives exactly the same as it did when I bought it with 30K on it.

Another vote for Tahoe/Yukon. Just got my wife back into a 17 Tahoe in Oct. She’s had a 03 Tahoe, 07 Tahoe, 08 Denali, then we tried a few other vehicles 11 Grand Cherokee, 15 Wrangler Unlimited. She kept saying how much she missed the Tahoe. When we bought the 03 she was really worried about the size, but they don’t feel big when driving them and she adjusted to it quickly.

This is a great idea. Thanks

My wife didn't like the size of my Suburbans until I forced her to drive it a while (she bought a damn Neon and I couldn't bring myself to let her drive it).

Now she doesn't want anything else to drive. She actually picked out the Z71 this time around.

After giving it some thought, I'm going to echo off the recommendations for the CX-9. You can get a fully loaded AWD Signature series for around $45K. Really, give it a look before you make a purchase. I also think the Pilot is worth a look, but the CX-9 is a sexy beast.
