Anyone else frustrated with Ford over the next GT500?

I sure hope a DCT wasn't wishful thinking as much as it would bring with it added heft and cost. My apologies if this one doesn't reach fruition but I'm holding out as this would definitely take the car to a much higher level.

...

Either way, well presented post!

to me, with it being common for all the high horsepower cars now, a DCT would give it a little more wow factor. to best the hellcat by a few HP may be meh to some, but throw an exotic tranny in there and you’re all the rage again

Wow. Can't believe Ford announced it on YouTube this morning. Not exactly the exciting reveal I was hoping. Hell, I think only a couple thousand tuned in to watch it live!

Was waiting for the YouTube link to load in the blank space... for far too long.

Even if it just gets the 10a, it’ll be a mid 10 car off the showroom.

It’ll have more tire, 250+hp, and possibly more slippery aero than the current gt’s. Those are already running 12.5@115 (manual magazine) to 11.8@120 (even smith, auto).

We can ponder all of this:
•460hp vs 710 to 750hp
•275mm 300tw tire (2018 gt) vs a 315 200tw (gt350R tire)
•the last car was comfortably running mid 11’s@125 with 662hp, 3850lbs, 56/44 distribution, and 285 220tw tires, and most importantly a stick.

Just put a 6r80 auto and drag radial tires on that car and it would be in the 10’s.

Drag racers have nothing to worry about. Honestly the 2013/14 gt500 was geared so long that it made for a less rewarding track day experience anyways, and Ford has the purists car in the gt350r, the gt350, the Gt manual pp2, and soon the bullitt.

If they offered it as auto only, the manual buyers will probably just buy up gt350’s or gt’s Or bullitts and be fine or add fi if they want big power and a manual.

Only people that’ll feel slighted are bench racers and people that can’t afford the car anyways.

I think your wrong in this statement.
If it only comes with the a10, we can all make a GT PP to be the same car for less with more power...whats the point in getting it, the name?!
the GT500 has to have some goodies on it that set it apart. nobody wants to spend more money on just a name.... I don't anyway.
this car IMO should have weight reduction, a DCT and to me 750+hp to spend 75k+ on it.
remove the DCT, use manual and 700hp 4100 lb car for 65k but then its just a gt PP with modified internals with a blower and a few coolers, essentially like a hellcat to draggers (but more track oriented) minus a couple hundred pounds. There has been a hellcat market for years and tons to be had for 50k area. why do this?
IMO something has to push the buyer into wanting this car over what is already on the market.

I was over reaching with that statement but I just dont see ford going auto only.

Even if they did though, we have lots of manual options. That said, I’d bet on a manual.

As far as the individuality of the gt500, I see Ford going pretty unique as far as aesthetic, and some nice brakes/chassis. They won’t need to do anything major power train wise except offer an auto to be in rare air/ a 1st for an svt cobra.

It is a halo year though, we may well see some interesting changes. I halfway expect carbon fiber and aluminum to play big, and set the stage for the s550 successor.

The 2011 went aluminum block, who knows.

What s550 successor? I thought the S650 program was canceled.

It was, or at least postponed. I didn’t use the name s650 for that exact reason.

I’ll die a bit if the next mustang is an electric hatch wagon thing

If it's anywhere near 4100 lbs, my R will be the last Mustang I buy for a long time. I'll be hard pressed to buy one even at 3800 lbs. I'm sick of porky Mustangs.

The S550 won't/can't stay around forever. Though, they did drag the Fox chassis on for 25 years. In the face of tougher and tougher CAFE standards, there's no way they can keep pushing out supersized Mustangs. It will either have to become smaller and lighter or be discontinued. I'm ALL FOR the former. The latter would be very sad.

Then do yourself a favor and bail on the discussion now.

You are living in a dream world if you think a supercharged car with the requisite cooling and a heavier transmission, bigger wheels, tires, brakes and more isn't going to get heavier. Take an ~3,715 lb GT350R and stick a blower on top with literally no other changes and what would that weigh? How are you going to remove the weight you're adding with those components just to get back to zero without making the car $150,000? Come on.

Easy.

3 wheel conversion. Remove passenger seat, move driver seat to center mast. No rear seat. No radiator (who needs one anyways). AND finally, fill the tires with helium.

It'd be nice if the car had a RSD as an option. There's ~30lbs there. A CF shaft is a 10lb reduction. I'll leave it at that as I believe they can at least do 50lbs (with some miscellaneous help to boot) without making mouch effort. Especially since one or the other has been factory content on either the '13/'14 GT500 or the GT350R. If the car can be less than 4100lbs, feel like it weighs less than that, and is a beast on a roadcourse - all thumbs up from me.

My real hope with this car is that I'm not disappointed. Within seconds of the reveal I'll either get a great sense or.....aw shit...and ask "why the **** would they do that?" I'm already wanting to know what didn't make the cut. And hopefully there was some involvement between production and Ford Racing during design/testing such that there will be parts to buy off the shelf. There was some great back and forth between the two for the regular Coyote motor but pretty much nothing ended up being available for the GT350.
