I was getting a good pull in 1st to second I get in second I notice the car makes a strange noise when it hits 5000 RPM and it wont pull past it, the gear shifter starts shaking violently even when I put it in neutral. So I turn off the car turn it on and get going, I pull again, doesn't happen, then again and boom happened again, I get out without turning car off and I hear this rattling in the left rear side, I check the brakes, they look ok and my gear shifter is still rattling hard until I turn the car off. I turn it on and it seems okay again. So I have no idea what the problem is, is it an axle, clutch, flywheel, I cant tell if it's drivetrain or transmission since the gear shifter is rattling too, and the problem is it happens when I pull from 1st to second but it doesn't happen everytime so I'm not sure. Opinions?

EDIT: Not sure if the rattling is in the left rear wheel, I was just checking from that side, for all I know could be in the middle of the rear section.

ooo, never thought of that, thank's a lot bud I'll check it out tomorrow :)

When I was 18 my mustang GT had a real bad shake in the shifter and made a lot of noise at speed. One day I was messing with it and found a driveshaft bolt missing and the others were so loose I could move them with my fingers.
Hopefully it's something simple like that.

apparently some guy told me my right rear wheel was wobbling? Can this indicate something? It's so weird because it's not happening anymore...

Maybe check the bearings in the wheels. I'd still check the driveshaft and make sure the bolts are tight.

any chance it could be the half shafts?

Possible but a loose wheel (lug nuts) or bad bearing is much more likely.

If the shaking shifter is related, the fact that it is still rattling when you stop and get out of the car pretty much eliminates anything rotational, or at least that isnt what I would focus on.

Second thought I guess if the DS were really that loose it could be pushed up against the exhaust.

When it happens the car won't go past 5000 RPM and runs rough after that? Does it feel like it's running out of gas? I'm thinking you have a fuel or ignition problem. How new are the plugs and fuel filter? Does the car still have cats?

That doesn't rule out you possibly not having a bad wheel bearing or loose driveshaft. But neither of those would cause the engine not to rev past 5K and still be a problem once the car is stopped.

It literally hasn't been happening again, so it's like it hits 5000 rpm I feel and hear something like start rattling in the back then the car wont rev higher and the shifter starts shaking like crazy and when I go outside there was something rattling hard in the back. Maybe a wheel is loose.

I don't see how a loose wheel will stop the motor from reving. I think the car is missing and your exhaust is hitting or rattling cause of the motor running like shit and that's the noise you're hearing?
A wheel won't rattle when the cars stopped. Only thing I can say is grab a video if it happens again.

This is his mother, sadly he passed away last night, reports say his last words were "why wont this thing rev?" Before the car exploded... JK guys but on the serious note it happened again, happened late too after alot of hard canyoning, I'm gonna put it up on the stands and check it out today (sadly broke my hand bad so I have to get surgery first before I can fix this)
