We installed a Magnum XL back in 2014 on my 12 GT 55D. The car is mostly stored but I want to make it a daily driver since it has low miles and i want to sell the ST Focus. Dash lights went crazy (blue moon intermittent) and the car runs like krap......P0702 came in output sensor code......I cleared the code it never came back but the speedo is lighting up like a christmas tree intermittent. There i alot of bad info out on the net. I have researched this for days. I have no box/Abbott/SGI-5e just the pigtails we got with the Tremec kit. It ran fine but this crazy ECU stuff is baffling. Why it ran fine and now this bull is what it is. I went back to OEM tune and no change.

  • 2005-2010 Mustang applications are a direct plug-and-play with regards to the speedometer. 2011-up models will require speedometer recalibration via ECU tuning or a separate plug-in signal converter from sine to hall-effect signal, such as the Abbott Enterprises ERA or Dakota Digital SGI-1 (Not included).
JPC is selling the Abbott box....but I found this as well on S197 ---->

"Blew the getrag, had a magnum installed with all the proper upgrades to the driveline, it works great. 3 weeks later my Speedo quit working, every light on the dash pretty much came on, and I was sure it was due to the wiring on the new trans. Then suddenly it worked again...and it worked everyday for the following 8 months. Till last week, same issue. I thought maybe it was the signal from the Abbott conversion box, so i bypassed it, still
nothing. Read the voltage coming from the output sensor, it's working, as I'm getting AC volts as I turn the wheels. My little code reader says output shaft speed sensor circuit. But sensor is working. So this leads me to can bus, or the pcm? Any ideas?
I priced a pcm at Ford for 600
No idea how to price a can bus system
2012 mustang gt premium"

I will be calling Tremec direct since there is not alot of concise info on this. Again it ran like a beast when True Street tuned it to 423hp at the wheels N/A motor.

The AM written word above is vague. You can tune it via ECU tuner? Abbott calls it Pulse Ratio.....Abbott ---> However, this Pulse Ratio can be made to vary from the true when modifications are made which change the number of electronic pulses per mile on a particular vehicle. This is most commonly caused by changing the tire size (increasing the outside diameter of the tires will cause the tire to travel further before making a complete revolution), but other modifications could have the same result. When the Pulse Ratio is thrown off, the speedometer/odometer will be inaccurate and corrections must be made.

pulse per mile vs protocol sine vs hall 2 different things

Your tuner should be able to use the abs wheel speed sensors to calibrate your speedo, but you won't have cruise in any gear.

yea i have heard that, thanks! StangTV has a 2011 they swapped in the Tremec, the video states that you either use the converted box or tune in for GT500 as they use the TREMEC . AM states the same --

  • Mine will run fine then go crazy. 2nd time this has done this. I have no converter box on the invoice that I can see. I will have True Street try to tune in for a GT500 cluster with the 2/3 wire change on the VSS
surgery x 2 of them..... coming up next week so i will be working this issue in January

I have mine working great now with the Dakota box except I have no cruise in 5th and 6th, but 1st-4th all work fine. Speedo is dead on though with no dash lights.

are you using a Dakota Digital SGI-5E ? Which output are you using to the ECU #2? thanks man :)

I would post a photo of the speedo but I not longer have a photo web host..and don't give a shit either about it :)

I have the dakota digitalal box. Ill have to look at what set up. Firsted wired it up it was only 2mph off. Couple button pushes was spot on no issues. Also ran the american powertrain reverse lockout box which worked great. I have an extra if anyone needs one. Also with a tune adjustment my cruise control works in all gears. It's a matter of getting the tune set on the high and low settings to get it to work in all gears. SCT just updated there software to allow access to this to fix cruise control issues.

hi fastback Im interested in your reverse lockout box im about ready to install my mag XL in my 14 gt just waiting on a couple parts now. I was considering wiring to the bake pedal but maybe ill just do that temporarily.

Ill have to take a look at the SCT update i have the X4 and didnt know you could make the change to your tune with your handheld I will be looking into this, that is excellent news.

This is by far the best most informative thread I've found regarding this swap and it's associated issues.... here's my experience.

I have a 2015 non performance pack GT with a 3.55 rear, original MT82 car. I had a 2.66 Magnum XL swapped in, bought it from JPC, so, I am assuming I have the Abbott box.

I only have cruise control to 4th gear, Cruise does not work in 5th or 6th gear

push the clutch in to shift from 1 to 2 and 2 to 3, the RPM will hang, and then rise a few hundred RPM before falling to idle. this doesn't seem to be an issue shifting 4 to 5 or 5 to 6

when accelerating onto say, the freeway, occasionally, at 3rd gear at 4,000 RPM, the car seems to hit a rev limiter, throttle stops responding. downshift and it'll continue to accelerate.

on the freeway, 4th gear @ around 2,000 RPM, it feels as if I stepped off the gas. downshift, problem goes away.

the car has a stock tune. from what I have read, and from my conversations with Lund Tuning, it needs a tune and this issue is the gear ratios being different inside the transmission....

so, would a Dakota Digital box fox this, or would a Lund tune be the way to go?

thanks!!

Earl
