hi guys, doing a search for tires for my cobra. I have the stock wheels and was wondering what size I can run without any issues. It’s on stock height.
I was thinking P275/40/17 on front and P315/35/17 on rear, but I heard there’s issues with the irs bolt? Also would it rub?

You’d need to grind down the bolt or get a button head bolt for 315’s and you’d need a 10.5” rim for a 315 wide tire. It’s stretching too far on a factory wheel. AFS is making the cobra reps again.

What size would you run on a stock rim? Front and rear. I heard people doing 315s on 17x9 rim

275 is probably the widest you'd want to go on stock rims.

there are safety issues when your tires are on wheels that are too narrow. it also looks ghetto AF

That’s what I wanted to say but couldn’t find a nice way to say it the way you did.

The only 315 I've heard people putting on the stock 9" rims is the Nitto NT555 or NT555R. That's because Nitto tires are noticeably narrower than other brands with similar specs. You would not get a Goodyear, BFG, or Toyo 315 on a 9" rim. If you could somehow get it to mount it would be unstable.

I also recommend getting the AFS 10.5 rear replicas. They are a great option and keep the factory look.

I had just done tires

I put 315 on stock wheel..

it did have some side wall roll..

I ordered 10.5 reps..

they fit fine with out the bolt but is close to fender..

I'm also stock height.

I had old nitty 555..

now the new 555g2

I noticed these are wider than before and a lot more rubber

It really depends on which tire you are talking about, some tires run wider/narrower than others. My buddy ran 295's on the factory wheels and had no issues. Tire fit great, no bulge or lack of contact patch.

I used to run Nitto 555R 315-17-35's on my stock rims with no problems. Just watch out for which tire store you use. Some won't mount them. The Nittos measure around 1.25" narrower than the 315-35-17 MT ET SS.

So the Nitto P315/35/17 will work fine on stock height on a 17x9 rim? I will be installing myself. I also won’t have to worry about irs bolt?

No bolts or spacers are required, there is just slightly more sidewall buldge. Run a couple psi lower 29-30 psi for more even wear.

not sure if it's still in the "sticky" section, but back in the early days of the terminator there were some really great threads (and one in particular) about possible tire and rim sizes and combos.

... charts, diagrams - pretty much all the info you could want.

Im having problems installing steel valve stems on my stock rims. 03 cobra with 17 inch wheels and 275 MT tires. Drag strip says I must run steel valve stems. Has anyone had this problem with the stock wheels.
