For those of you that keep a knife on your person, in your car or bag, what do you carry and why? I recently grabber a Gerber LMF II survival fixed blade for multi-purpose and bushcrafting. It could have better steel (420 HC Stainless), but at $75 I think it is a pretty good deal.

I carry an inexpensive Gerber Ripstop. Cabelas had a major sale on them a few years back so I wiped out their inventory at $5/ea. Cheap knives obviously don't last as long, but they're easy to sharpen and I don't feel guilty using them. I've bought expensive ones with the intention of carrying but they wind up in a case in the nightstand.

My wife collects Case knives- have quite a display of them in our living room.

I keep an SOG "Flash II" spring assisted knife handy. Tonto blade and partially serrated. Comes in handy. I've owned it for 15 years. I chipped the blade and the belt clip broke. I sent it back to SOG and within 2 weeks I had a brand new replacement. I'm very happy with the SOG quality and customer service.

To get an idea of the size. A fighting and utility knife.

Also since people like the background. This knife was given to graduates of the Special Forces Qualification Course (SFQC) since 2002. I graduated in 1990 though I started an unusual OJT with SF in 1989. Not every Tom, Dick, and Harry gets their mitts on them.

I've always wanted a switchblade but never pulled the trigger. One of these days I'll find a great deal on a used one.

You don't happen to know a recently retired SF team sergeant named Ricky Harris do you? I shoot pistol matches with him pretty regularly in Dunn when he's in town.
