If we were to get a 4.8, I would have to think it would need to be twin turbo. GM is supposed to have a new 6.2L DOHC that is going in the Vette, and likely the Camaro. It's rumored that Dodge will offer the non race tune Demon engine to their lineup. Who knows if the latter will wind up in a lighter vehicle. I just don't think a S/C 4.8 will be able to hang with the competition mod for mod.
Many OEMs and even race engine builders will REDUCE bore size for the gains in cylinder strength/sealing. What you give up in displacement and valve shrouding can be made back with the ability to run higher boost with a more rigid cylinder and better head gasket seal.
The difference in 4.8/5.2 is negligible if the 4.8 can run 10 more PSI.

Wait,.....................?!?!?
We're getting a new GT500?!? lol

Correct!

just as soon as they get thru the hybrid Mustang job 1 phase which I hear is slated for the 2020 model year. The diesel electric GT Mustang with a 10 sp auto is going to be awesome as soon as they get the right engine note from the sound system which is downloaded directly from your iPhone from the app store. By the time the GT500 is released there will be no steering wheel!

Born and raised Brockton. Living in Naples.
Ecoboost refers to turbos. Typically, boost/boosted = turbo, blown/blower = supercharger.

Not following the thread, are you?

I’am just stupid post imho. Boosted could also mean supercharged as well. I think most people would already know what you posted being on this site.

It wasn't a "stupid" post at all. Most would know it, yes. But the person I was responding to seemed not to. I mentioned an Ecoboost 4.8L V8, and he responded talking about a supercharged 4.8 V8 not being able to keep up or make "enough" power. The two posts don't go together. Had you been following the thread, you would've noticed that.

/\ My mistake for not picking up on the ecoboost from the start. The 4.8 just jumped out at me and I thought S/C with all the 2650 talk. How mod friendly might this be? What would the upgrade stages be?

Mod friendly with turbos is all about the Ecu. From current understanding which is not all that current, Amg TT Ecu are fairly easy to tune, while Audi TT Ecu uses a lockout Ecu which is much more difficult to tune.

Small displacement Ecoboost V8 (4.8L or less), big revs
680+ HP
6-speed manual standard, 7-speed DCT optional, no torque converter auto on a top dog Mustang
Torsen LSD

These two posts combined with Travis's comment about the value of the Trinity cars being preserved lends credence to the small displacement path. 8-cylinders and 755+ horses will leave little room for the haters though.

The "green car" comment on this or another thread was interesting as well.

I think the green car was the same time that the '18 Bullit special edition was announced.
Overall though I agree that I doubt we will see over 5.2 displacement from Ford in Mustang in the future.

The people hoping for mega horsepower are going to be sorely disappointed. Ford has finally started moving toward weight reduction. (Some size reduction would be nice, too.) If Ford can produce a +/-3500 lbs top dog Mustang (wishful thinking, I know), it won't need to have 700+HP to take down Hellcats and ZL1s. (Or Demons.)

Complete BS. Mustang is going virtual in 2021 there is no way they would go to the expense of introducing a hybrid version of the platform just the year before.

My sister in law's brother works for a gaming company and told me Ford Smart Mobility will be offering a Mustang virtual reality gaming experience projected on the windshields of their 2021 Smart Mobility Vehicles. When your Ford autonomous ride pulls up next to a GM made autonomous ride you can grab your joystick and virtually race. A limited number of game controllers will be Shelby GT500 badged to ensure dealers can still make windfall profits. Post enough virtual races to your social media accounts and Ford may let you purchase a Ford GT game controller.

If you're going to post stuff like this, you need to share whatever you're smoking with the rest of the class...

Maybe in order to get the answer we need to work backwards. I.E. the supercharger. My understanding is that Ford almost bankrupted whipple over the new sc orders for the gt500. They pulled out to go with the Eaton 2.65. If this is true, then you have your answer. 5.2 sc cross plane crank due to boost over compression.

TVS crank numbers are all subject to interpretation, SO lets say 766 hp since it sounds good and it's 100 more than the 13
