Didnt mean to cause a panty bunching. haha

I was kinda irritated after treking through post after post and finding nothing.

Thank you for adding this! :)

There was no panty bunching, did you not see the :poke::poke: in my post. lol

If my panties were bunch you would have gotten the "bumping old thread" infraction.

You did it for good reason.

Thank you.

Now to keep with the tech. Is the 03/04 fuel tank the same as the 99-01 Cobra or SOHC GT fuel tank? With the only difference being the sump in the bottom of the 03/04 tank?

Because I didn't know about it maybe?
Because I wasn't a mod then?
Because no one asked for it?

Why the hell didn't you ask me to add it instead of bumping a 3 yr old thread.:poke::poke:

It has been added.

Thanks for making it a sticky. I was trying to find this thread a couple weeks ago.

Incredibly useful write up!!! Thank you!

I know this is quite a few years old but by chance does anyone know the part number of the 03/04 canister connector depicted in picture # 5? I need to allocate one of these to make this tank work in my 99.

Does anyone here know if the 03 tank is "deeper" than the 99-01' tank? I didnt see it mentioned. Reason I am asking is because I am in the process of dropping a Fore hat and GT Pumps in my 01 tank. I removed the canister and mounting plate (w/rivets) and with following Fore's instructions with setting the depth on the pumps it bottoms out in my 01 tank. I had to modify it but im still very close to the bottom but not touching anymore. I am just curious if anyone knows my question about the depths of the tanks. Also wondering how much clearance you should have between the socks and the bottom of the tank. I dont want to starve any part of my socks from getting fuel. Thanks if anyone can help.

a lot of people have ran into issues when lowering or installing the tank, it kinda caves in the bottom of the tank from where the jack was. but your hat should slide right in with no issues.

I know some people that have had a caved in tank , have just pounded it back down.

as long as your not forcing the hat down with the screws it should be good.
it should drop right in and be flush with the top of the tank before you start tighting any of the bolts
does that make sense?

wait, why did you have to remove the mounting plate? the new hat should bolt right up to the stock mounting plate.

the mounting plate for the stock canister inside the tank. Not the mounting ring that you bolt the hat to.

and yeah i get what your saying in your other post but what im saying is the pumps touch the bottom of the tank before the hat is flush to the mounting ring. I made some adjustments it should work out fine now. Im just curious what the depth is on each tank and how much room from the tank to the socks your suppose to have. Maybe I can take a picture through the filler neck hole and get some opinions.

I'm bringing this back from the dead lol. Will a sending unit off a mach 1 stock fuel pump work on cobra dual pumps? I got the hat/pumps, but no sending unit. Of the 4 wires, 2 of the inside wires have been cut. The 2 that aren't cut run to the pumps. I'm assuming the two that are cut both went to the sending unit? Do I need a cobra sending unit or can I make mine work? Thanks

The actual sending unit (circuit board thing) will work but your gauge will be off about an 1/8 of a tank (low). However your float arm will not work. You need the 03/04 float and arm.

So I bought a bare 03 tank from On3 and will be picking up a 03 pump locally for $100, and using all the hardware from my 99's tank. Do I need to add a fitting for the vapor return or don't worry about it?

Hello Steve.

Great write up. And the only place on the whole internet which has provided me with 99.99999% of the information I need.

I'm rebuilding the rear end of my wife's 99 new edge. Its a 99 tank, so it's got the side bulkhead and tube instead of the tube coming from the Y connector.

Can you tell me please, if the side vent needs to go to the filler neck, or if it can be capped? You may have said. If you have, I apologise for being blind!

Thanks in advance
