Glad it's working out for you but how did you manage to do it in 5 minutes??

Me and my wife just got out there, bent the metal plate and gave the quadrant 3 clicks, she held the clutch for me. Really easy and quick. Didn't take out the front seat. I'm 6ft 150lbs so it wasn't a problem fitting in front of the seat. Its a 2001 cobra.. don't know how much of a difference, if any, that there is from my car and the 03-04s down there.

But I thought it was my synchros... so when this worked, I was insanely happy and thankful to you sir!

It's funny, I did this years ago from this post, and subscribed. About every 6 months or so I get a email notification of someone who found this and the are full dancing bananas because they found a solution to their misshifting..

it worked for a while for me. so, it's definitely worth your time to do this as it may fix the issue. when it started having the issue again, i just went ahead and got the quadrant put on when i was getting a new clutch, tob, and sleeve put on.

I just did the modification on mine. I got my cobra about 2 weeks ago and i thought the transmission was bad. It was really hard to shift in 2 and 3 at high rpm.
Now it shifts a lot more smoothly. I needed 3 clicks to get the clutch engage at about 1/3 of the entire travel from the floor (compare to about 1/2" from floor before the mod)
In addition to that, there is no more annoying vibration coming from the loose pedal. Also the sound coming from the TOB when no pressure at all on the pedal is gone.
So for now I'm more than happy with this mod.

Finally, i'm not that happy. The more tension it added to the clutch cable made a squealing sound in the TOB area. My guess is that with more tension, the TOB is pushed on the pressure plate but not hard enough, so the TOB is probably gliding on the PP making this squealing metal on metal sound. If I pressed a very little bit on the clutch pedal, then no more squealing. After putting back the original tension, no squealing sound, which would mean that the TOB is not in contact anymore with the PP when I don't press on the pedal.
The TOB has been replaced lately and it's a Ford Racing one.
If the sound didn't come from the TOB/PP little contact then Maybe it's the TOB sleeve that started to worn out.
I've read a lot and can't find the final answer, but all directed me to the assumption above.
Maybe adding some lube in the TOB area could be good.
Next step will be to drop the trans and look at what happens in there.

This has been covered a few times in this thread already but on the stock setup the pressure plate is in contact with the throwout bearing at all times. The stock clutch adjuster just essentially regulates the amount of pressure between the two. This is why Terminators wear out TOBs often. Noises indicate that something may be going bad but some lubricant in the right place may quiet things down and buy you some time.

I performed this mod very quickly. Less then 45 mins. It is exceptionally easier if you disconnect the clutch cable from the quadrant. Then the clutch pedal hangs loose and you can wedge it under the floor mat. Cut the metal with 2-3 cut-off wheels on a dremmel. Reassembled and set clutch to normal position. Then Pushed adjuster up two clicks. Made a big difference in my shifting. It wouldnt shift under load before this. I am planning to purchase an AM quadrant and firewall adjuster now.

*Centerforce clutch, AM flywheel, Triax STS, anti-venom mod.*

Read almost all 11 pages of this post! As every single person described their newly purchased (used) car and had the same exact problem, I too have the same problem. I even posted in the clutch section asking and no one directed me towards this. This is my exact problem and look to do it this weekend! Thanks OP!

Done, with dremel it took roughly 20 minutes. 2 clicks and it's on point!! I have a stage 2 clutch but for the first ride, it's night and day!
