Right you will not know for sure but you can make a good guess. Chances are break-ins with you home will come at night, most likely in bed. Most people I know keep their home defense gun in their bed room. So chances are you will be confronting an intruder around your master bed room. So coming out your bedroom are you looking down a hallway, looking into another bedroom, looking down a staircase.

As Grabber I would want stopping not penetrating. Buck Shot or large bird shot over Slugs.

My shotgun is reserved for defending a fixed position in the bedroom. If we're in bed and someone breaks in we take up a defensive position and keep that gun pointed at the door while calling the cops (who have an insanely quick response time here). Since we don't have kids I'm not looking to be a hero running through clearing halls and rooms.

That being said, we have the best home defense item you can get; a dog. She lets us know if anything is out of place around the house at all times. Plus she can blend in with her surrondings like the Predator.

That picture is awesome!! We also have the same defense. A 5lb poodle, a 4lb poodle (for alarm sound only haha), and a 70lb GSP. They will give us heads up very fast.

Nah I want em dead.

Looks like birdshot.

It’s pretty obvious to me to go with buck shot. Now I’ll have to decide on 0,1,or 4.

Can you kill them in Maryland? I thought y’all had to run and hide. No stand your ground laws.

What's the reasoning?
Buckshot has more of a spread, it's more of the oh @$&@&$ moment and then once on target a slug is as accurate as a rifle. Basically if someone was holding a knife to someone's throat the slug would take the bad guy out and you would need dental records to identify them. The problem with bird and buckshot which many police departments are getting away from is there are pellets going off target and they are going to slugs only.

Here/there/some other silly place
first 2 is 2 3/4th 00 buck and a 1 1/4th ounce slug behind out of a Remington 1187 Police magnum. 12 gauge.

And if I lived in the country to hell with dogs as I would probably have about a dozen Guineas, they only do a ruckus when something is out there, unlike a dog that barks just to be barking on most occasions.

I'm sorry to disagree, but this isn't accurate. 4OO buck and slugs are a very common round in L.E. some alternate one, then the other while others leave it full of buck and have slugs on a side saddle. You aren't going to try and take a hostage shot with a shotgun at anytime. That's why you transition to a pistol. The thread is about what the best load in a shotgun for home defense which, IMO, is OO buck. In panic mode as long as you're close, you're gonna do damage to an intruder. Most people aren't accurate when under stress, but with minimal spread, your not going to hit anyone beside you.
Slugs are devastating, but require greater accuracy and will over penetrate just about everything in a house. You don't want to miss and send a slug across the street and into a neighbor's house.

A shotgun really seems silly to me for home defense. Doesn't seem like the best option for defense in a home invasion, compared to a pistol more easily concealed and easier to get to.

But, this isn't something that ever even enters my mind as I could throw a baseball and hit the police department's building.
