Built motor options

So I was just thinking what would be a good option to get a built motor? I am currently making 740rwhp and 553Tq on the stock motor on E85. I know that this combo is pushing the envelope so I was wondering who did you go with for a built motor? Looking to get a built motor possibly next year as the car will be paid off. Don't mind the downtime of having the current motor built, but there are several sites that have built motors for sale that I can send my current motor in for core. I was looking at PBH and they have options for a 2015 block with 11-14 timing components or an aluminator with the 9.5:1 comp ratio for more cash and more power. Who did you go with?

Sub'd, I'm in the same boat. I wonder how many went with the MMR 1000 they used to advertise all the time for under 3k I believe.

It would be nice if PBH would offer the 11:1 compression aluminator with the 15 heads and 11-14 timing components

Interested as well, same boat, thinking aluminator for low cost short block or Livernois for a long block with heads and cams. Difference is like $5k vs $12k before install.

If it were me I'd consider a few ways

15+ short blocks are good for some decent power - 8 - 900ish for a while depending how you treat it

Buy an assembled unit from Greg at MMR or PBH,

or have a shop like L&M build yours

Anyone have any experience RGR? They are located close by me so they would also be an option.

I have heard that MMR wasn't as reliable? Any truth to that?
Maybe in the past they may have had some issues, but I think they are a pretty decent outfit these days.

A 15+ short block for $1,500 then put in better pistons, get the required machine work done for that, it'd be good for 800+.

Yea i've heard people say MMR stands for "might make raceday." I have no experience with them however. 15+ short or long block seems like a good solution at this point.

the 15 short block is good to about a 100 more hp then ur already making. thats a waste of money. build it right and save urself the headache and wasted money.

850 hp is where these are coming apart. yea I'm sure there are a few that have made more here and there just like there a few who have made 800 hp on the 11-14 motor but that won't mean shit when ur motor comes apart.

and steer clear from MMR!!!!! bunch of clowns!

That is a good point. Better to have a larger safety margin like getting a built motor rated for 1000hp so I have some wiggle room. Will have to see what my budget looks like next year. Better start saving up now haha.

Isn't the 2015's weak point the pistons? For the price of that short block, I'd think it would be cheaper to buy it and put in new pistons. Most 1000hp+ rated Coyote blocks still use the Boss crank, which the 2015 has. It also has Boss rods (not entirely sure what HP number they are good to, pretty sure they're forged), and then the pistons are the weak part. For $1,500 you can get an entire short block and replace the pistons.

If you're going through the trouble of swapping an engine, go with a real forged short block. The boss rods in the 15 block use the same material as the regular coyote rods, just a little thicker.

in for replies. does anybody have experience with purchasing a mmr rotating assembly? I've been on the fence about doing that or just dropping money on a new built motor

I keep throwing around that idea in my head as well.
a lot of it has to do with cost for labor, they will have to break my twin kit down, take motor out, open it up and all that machine work and then put back together.. almost think that would cost just as much as a new motor lol but shoot, idk. I gotta talk to a shop that knows what they are doing with these coyote motors
