Camaro Z/28s Are Cheap Now

We were alerted to this astounding fact by friend-of-R&T Bozi Tatarevic, who noticed a handful of Z/28s listed for under $40,000 on a dealer auction site. One Z/28 with nearly 13,000 miles is listed for $35,000 and another with just 952 miles has a $36,000 asking price.

But don't fret if you don't have access to dealer auctions—a quick search on Cars.com reveals a number of Z/28s listed for well under $45,000. There's even one for sale in Pennsylvania with 762 miles on its odometer for $50,000.

So why is the Z/28 so cheap? Perhaps it's because these cars don't make great daily drivers. All the things that make the Z/28 so excellent on track—sticky tires, aggressive suspension setup, a stripped-out interior, and that low splitter—cause lots of problems on the road.

And at the end of the day, this is a Camaro that costs Corvette money. We don't see that as a problem, but you can imagine that potential buyers would. This is a car you have to be in-the-know to truly appreciate. In related news, Top Gear's Chris Harris just imported one to the UK.

We're just curious to see if the Z/28 depreciates any further. It's a bargain where it stands right now, but if they get any cheaper, I might have to buy one myself.

Would love the opportunity to drive one of those beasts. I was very impressed with my lowly 1LE 5G camrow.

even better - if you are considering getting a new gen camaro - go read the problems/issues section of the camaro forums and you will know why they are depreciating so much.

Sell ur gt500 before it keeps going down in value and get the z28.

I dont expect the 13/14s to drop much more.

Havent even started to enjoy the gt500 yet... I suspect I will be keeping it for a while.

not at my post...
thats nice, so then its easier to shell out 2k to fix the heads.

Yep! Hell thats a weekend job too. I have started heads and cam jobs on a Friday evening after work and finished by Sunday afternoon. I'd look for some take off LS7 heads and have a machine shop put in new guides and valves, so there is quick turn around. You can recoup a good chunk by selling your old head afterwards.

I'd love to have both a '15 Z/28 and a '17 GT-350R resting in my garage. :)

z28 has been like this for a while now. BRAND NEW left overs were going for $48-50k about 6 months ago.

Would love to have one parked next to my Shelby.

The biggest problem with owning one of these and using it as it was designed is the cost of consumables.

Brakes are $3k per axle.

Tires are $475 a piece and forget about mounting them yourself.

I heavily considered one of these but the first order of business would be to unload the brakes, wheels and tires. Use that money on a set of iron brakes, cheaper wheels and a set of extreme contact sports. You'd probably put a bit of money in your pocket but then you also removed a lot of what made that car great.

Very true.

I'd be the dumbass who leaves it exactly as it came from the factory only to take it out on weekends for cruising.
