Explain to me what is the quickest way you get up and running to datalog a pass at the track.

I'm trying to plan this out because I like to be able to start my car, pull up to the staging lanes then make a pass. However, to datalog you need to have Livelink up and running, check the communications, check vehicle data, load a configuration file and finally hit record. The whole process takes almost 5 minutes.......I would practically have to start doing this in the pits with the car running.

Thanks in advance.

I haven't done it at the track, but I've set up my Livelink in the garage with just the KOEO. Then I set the pointer over the start datalog icon and when I'm on the road I hit the mouse button to start datalogging.

Right but all that setup takes time.....time which you don't have in the staging lanes. Leaving your car running does nothing but create heat.

I'm trying to figure out the quickest way to get Livelink up and running before making a pass.

KOEO=key on engine off. So you can turn the computer on and get it ready while sitting in the pits. Then hit the start icon when you're ready in the staging lanes.

Yes I understood but I don't think that is true, at least it wasn't with my XCal 2 (now using X4). With the KOEO, you can get stuff ready but as soon as you turn the car over there is a split second where the handheld looses connection, so you have to go through the communications setup all over again.

I never had that issue with my Xcal2 or X3. I can set everything up as far as the communication and open my selected PIDs. Then when I'm ready I start the car and then start datalogging.

Just get everything setup where all you have to do is hit the start button. You can turn the car off then back on and it will still be connected to the car. Just gotta make sure the datalog is stopped before you turn the car off and the car is running again before you start the datalog.

Another thing you can do is upload your config file to your X4 and save the datalog to your X4 then transfer it to your laptop. You'll be limited on how many PID's you can datalog doing it like this though.

What I do is plug in my laptop to a power converter so it's always on in the pits, connect to the car, leave laptop on. Once I turn the car on I just hit record as I'm getting ready to head to the lanes. It could use some streamlining, but it works. Thinking of going with a permanently installed Surface pro to make this much easier.
