Hello all,

After I buy my CCW's this week....I will be buying my ARH 7/8 with 3' collector shortly after for my 2003 cobra. Wondering if I should go with the offroad x-pipe or just get the cats. I know a guy that can pass me. I was wondering if anyone had Borla stingers that has ARH and tell me what the sound difference between offroad x-pipe than having cats. please let me know :)

You could go the middle ground too, and call ARH directly for a midpipe. I had them make me an x-pipe with some of their 3" resonators/bullet mufflers in place of the cats. It was the same price as a catted x. I personally don't like the sound of not having cats, most setups without them are too loud and raspy, but that's a personal preference of course. I have the catted midpipe in the garage, but don't see myself ever going back.

I agree with Comp04svt. I got cats on mine. Respectfully, to T3naci0usT, I have the same exhaust as you, but with cats, and yours sounds more raspy than mine.
The catback will play a big role in overall raspyness as well. Magnaflow rarely sounds raspy. My friend has the same headers and midpipe, but with 3" Bassani and his doesn't sound raspy either. In fact, he thinks mine sounds louder!

Get cats, if you know anyone in the area that's an active duty service member get them to buy them for you, ARH sells at cost to military.

But If I have borla s-type aren't the resonators already on those? Can you send me a picture of the exhaust on your car?

In your case, the resonators in your system would be where the mufflers go, these are installed where the cats would be.

So I would have to put cats on mine no matter what correct? I cant switch the resonators to the front. Do you have a sound clip?

No, not if your buddy can "pass" you. This would be the same as having an off road setup. The resonators are just there, in my case for sound as a personal preference. If your state just does a visual inspection, they may pass because they look like cats, but if they do a sniffer test, then you would need your buddy to pass you. You would leave your cat back alone. You would have to call ARH and have this made by them custom. The resonators used, are almost the same size as the cats that would normally be there.

This was with the magnaflow cat back I had, I have a bassani cat back now.

Catless with resonators sounds very nice. So resonators and mufflers is what I mean by that.

I've had catless x 2.5" with magnaflow cat back and stock manifolds on 4.6 and 5.4 combos, it's very good, but looking back I wish I had gotten vibrant resonators then.

I have vibrant resonators only now on my turbo cobra and it's perfect but it'd be too loud on a sc car.

Comp04svt - awesome looking set up! I am looking to change my mid pipe but I'm out of the loop who is ARH? Link? I currently have the Pypes O/R H-Pipe with FlowMaster Super 44s and I'm not liking the sound. Had a Mac PC and loved the sound but need more ground clearance so I got the Pypes pipe. Now I don't like the sound. I'm finally thinking about trying and X-pipe after all these years!

ARH is "American Racing Headers" https://americanracingheaders.com/

BTW I called American racing Headers today and they said they WILL NOT make resonators for me instead of catted x-pipe. They informed be the only way they would do it is if I brought the car there to have it done. Not sure if you ran into the same problem @Comp04svt. The guy emailed me because I sent him pictures of the work you had done and this was his response: "It looks nice. Unfortunately, we do not make those. We can only custom make them here." Now I do not know what to do lol

Hmm that's odd. I called them and they told me they would check into it. They called me back the next day and told me their fabricator put piping in their jig and said no problem it'll fit and the resonators were the same size as the cats were.

I'm guessing the issue is that its been 3 years now since I had them make my setup. But I'm surprised because it was no issue for me.

Well if cats are the route you want to go and are interested in a mid pipe, I have a catted one that'll work for you, PM me if you're interested.

Thank you! Honestly, I think you will be more unhappy with the x-pipe to be honest. X-pipes are usually known to be a little more raspy. H-pipes are usually a little deeper tone.

I mostly agree, but having cats and the choice of catback play a big role in raspyness. Most go with an offroad X and a more raspy catback(ie: not Magnaflow or Mac), which is usually why it sounds that way.
