That was terrifyingly fast, or at least it appeared to be. Never saw him break 281 kph/174 mph.

Interesting how he was fighting the wheel so violently in some sections. That must be quite the arm & shoulder workout at that speed.

Production car sure seems loose in this case. Anywho when will someone break the overall record that Porsche has owned for 3 decades?

I'll bet his arms were happy when that run ended. That was quite a run. Gotta love these Vipers. But so brutal!

I'm wondering why he couldn't get over 278 kph (173 mph) on that last long straight. It was like he hit a wall. ??

dont these things have top speed issues due to all the downforce from the aero package? I believe it knocks the top speed down quite a bit

Could be. I was just surprised. By ear only, you'd think it was maxxed out on speed. Just sounded like it had nothing more.

The ACR-E (Extreme) produces 1700 lbs of downforce at 150 mph. Top speed is limited to 177mph.

The coolest thing about this run, was it was their 1 and only hot lap the whole time and they laid down a 7:03. They left the cars in Germany and are going back either this month or next and have a few more time slots rented out. Everyone involved believes they will hit 6:5X with a few more hot laps under their belt.

The next coolest thing is that this project is 100% crowdfunded and FCA had nothing to do with it. They've raised nearly $200k since January.

Ah, thanks for the further explanation Nick. That makes sense.

Downforce is just a force (lb), not a torque (ft-lb or lb-ft).

Interesting article I found indicated poor economy while towing an ACR Viper due to the downforce. LOL

I wish those guys luck in getting into the 6:5X time frame when they take another crack at it!

That's what I meant, my apologies.

After watching the in-car footage, I'm sure they can. They'll have the car more dialed in after a few more hot laps, and the drivers will be more comfortable. Dominik said he hasn't raced very many 6-speeds since 2010 when he set the lap record with the Gen IV ACR.

Man I love vipers wish they would continue to make them. If you own an older viper I am sure you are happy. The value has gone up I am sure.

They did that on the first and only clean lap. The rear wing has five adjustments. The coil overs have 10 settings for both rebound and compression. Do you leave the hood vents in or out? The front splitter is adjustable also. The rear diffusers are also adjustable. You can really screw this car up if you don't know what you are doing. It's too bad Dodge/SRT don't have the spare cash lying around to make an effort. This car is a 6:40s car, getting there will be a monumental task. I personally don't think they have the experience or skill to get there. There's a lot more to this car than the driver.

You can make up speed in other areas of the track besides the back stretch.

You're absolutely correct. To knock off 13+ seconds is being way too optimistic though.

Who the hell was driving? They were driving the shit out of it. Impressive.

Dominik Farnbacher. He set the record in the Gen IV ACR back in 2011. He admitted he may not be the best driver for this, as his manual transmission racing is very limited.

Imagine if it had active aero...

It would be faster...but would give up some of the "cool" factor of being 'old school technology' whooping up on the high tech cars.
