Nice pick up! Loved my CLS55, do some bolt ons and prepare to hurt some feelings in a 10+ year old 4 door.

I pulled a couple stock/light mod C5Z's in my car and it was tune only. The best part is when people aren't familiar with the platform and they have no idea why they lost lol

Where do you live that people don't know about the E55??

Lots of misinformation in this thread regarding the E55. Maintenance and parts costs being blown out of proportion. These cars are easy to work on - domestic easy. The Airmatic struts can be replaced with Arnotts with Goodyear bags and lifetime warranty. Powertrain is damn near bullet proof and aftermarket performance components continue to grow. Get yourself a black market Star Diagnostic System and your set.

Go to MBWorld in the W211 E55 section to get the real scoop.

I wouldn't say it's my area, just those random people you run into that aren't all around car enthusiasts and only know their own car. For example, I ran into an LS3 C6 on the highway and after stealing the hit he could not pull away. When we got to a stoplight his exacts words were "What the hell is that thing?!"

Great video here that addresses some of the talk in this thread about reliability, cost of repair, as well as longevity. If it will last 400K miles, even with the best care, in my book that proves the engine to be pretty well built. Secondly, as explained in this clip if you take it to the dealer for every little thing it may nickle and dime you to death but most fixes can be done on your own and for MUCH cheaper.

To the OP, congrats on a sweet car! I considered buying one at the time I bought my Jeep SRT8 and have again since then but have just gone different routes instead. I REALLY want a E55 AMG Estate (wagon) but they brought so few of them into this country that people still want a fortune for them. But I still may consider one for the next car if CTS-V wagons haven't dropped a little more in price. Good luck and enjoy!

Funny you mention that, I was perusing craigslist for these cars the other day (just browsing) and saw a wagon. Checked it out, and looked good. Then I looked at the price, 40k. For a 2005....

I don't think anyone has discounted how robust the E55 engine and tranny are. The issues are with airmatic, supercharger pulley, and typical 211 E classes(central gateway). For someone very handy you can do most stuff. Front airmatic is not bad at all. Rear is a PITA as you are supposed to drop the rear subframe. Some people have been lucky to sneak the rear bag in but I've seen many not do it correctly and the bags have gone bad almost instantaneously. I wouldn't be afraid to purchase an E55. A 211 E63 or early 212 E63, I'd stay away from. But I've had clients put a 100K miles and have 0 issues with the 6.2, and others have grenade a motor while still in warranty.

Before we bought our CTSV coupe I wanted a Vagon, wife wanted no part of that.

On the reliability, how are the newer 63s, with the 5.5TT? In about a year I will be selling my E55, and was hoping to upgrade to a preowned E or CLS63.

Funny you said that, I was looking for one and it was the samething. 40-50k for a 80k-100k miles wagon or 15-20k for normal e55 with 50k-80kmiles.

So I just got a normal e55.
