The are nice cars.

The one my parents had, maintained like crazy and kept bone stock, is starting to become a weekly visitor to the Dealership. Random small things that just add up. And it already had the plastic pulley explode and the suspension crap out twice.

So, I hope you have better luck than them.

the E55 is actually pretty reliable, german cars are more maintenance sensitive than fords for sure. if you take your time and find a good car with verifiable records and regular maintenance they car be a very fun car to own.

if youre also a DIY guy its a plus because the few things they need are easy to replace. air suspension failures are greatly exaggerated, and even if an air strut fails they are easy to find remanufactured for around $350.

the nice thing about used high end cars like the e55 is it is possible to find stock cars, most guys that spent 95k in the mid 00s weren't quick to take these cars out and mod the hell out of. these aren't ctsvs.

sure there are a lot of cars out there modded now, but unlike a GT500 per say its easy to find a unmolested car.

as far as the E55 vs E63 debate, the 55 is FAR FAR FAR more reliable and modifiable then a 6.2 car.

Nice pick up! Loved my CLS55, do some bolt ons and prepare to hurt some feelings in a 10+ year old 4 door.

I pulled a couple stock/light mod C5Z's in my car and it was tune only. The best part is when people aren't familiar with the platform and they have no idea why they lost lol

Care to elaborate?
What was on the e63 that made it less reliable than the e55?

I see that 6.2L motor in just about every mercedes.

early 6.2 NA's had an issue with followers/cams causing catastrophic failure of the engine. You never see that with the E55.

I believe he is a service mgr for a benz dealership. I'd take his word for it.

Advisor for 9 years. Don't want the headaches of management.
